Also available as a 3-pack with AN EVENING WITH THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND-1ST SET and SEVEN TURNS. Allman Brothers Band: Gregg Allman (vocals, acoustic guitar, Hammond B-3 organ); Dickey Betts (vocals, acoustic & electric guitars); Warren Haynes (vocals, acoustic, electric & slide guitars); Allen Woody (acoustic, electric & fretless basses, background vocals); Paul T. Riddle (drums); Butch Trucks (drums, tympani, background vocals); Jaimoe (drums, percussion, background vocals). Engineers: David Hewitt, Biff Dawes, John Falzarano. Recorded live at Walnut Creek Amphitheater, Raleigh, North Carolina on July 1, 1994; Garden State Arts Center, Holmdel, New Jersey on August 16, 1994; Club R&R, Los Angeles, California on June 11, 1992. "Jessica" won a 1996 Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance. "In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed" was nominated for Best Pop Instrumental Performance. A kind of companion piece to the 1992 AN EVENING WITH THE ALLMAN BROTHERS, this compilation of live shows from 1992 and 1994 isn't as epochal as LIVE AT THE FILLMORE EAST (what could be?) but it's an excellent set in its own right. At the very least it demonstrates why the reconstituted Allman Brothers became such an in-demand concert attraction in the '90s. Miraculously, even though some of the songs here had been in the band's repertoire for as long as 30 years, there isn't a rote gesture on SECOND SET; in fact, some of the performances--notably the Bob Diddley-beat jam section of "No One to Run With"--are downright inspired. Most revelatory moment--an unplugged acoustic version of the epic instrumental, "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed."

Great Album!!
This is a great live Allman Brothers Band album; the vinyl plays well & it seems to be top quality. I only wish they would release The Fiirst Set again on vinyl. I think the first set is even better, but you can't even find a copy used for sale much less new. Maybe they will rerelease it again one day.

2nd Set - The Allman Brothers
This album is like a continuation of the fillmore, if you like live recordings this is a must have. The one track that is exceptional and was only performed and recorded this one time is In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed. This is a 10 minute Acoustic version, no electric guitars no drums, just pure acoustic guitar and bass and the rest of the album is pure allman bros. country blues. A definite add to the brothers collection.

jest a great allman brothers album
I was never really into the "later" ABB, but I picked this up based on the Amazon reviews - and I'm glad I did. Not eeggzackly the spark and electricity of the orig. ABB, but a great rockin' album none the less.Sweet acoustic version of Elizabeth Reed, outstanding Jessica. And really, if you had Eat A Peach and Live at the Fillmore East as a teenager, like I did, do you really have the energy to listen to those records anymore?

Brilliant
As with the first set, this CD blisters along with some fantastic music. The First and Second Set are easily as good as Fillmore East, and despite the changes in personnel over the years, the musicianship is second to none. Highly recommended

Nice Follow Up
The songs on 2ND SET are nice companionpieces for the material on AN EVENING WITH THEALLMAN BROTHERS: First Set, the album which preceded it.Collected from three separate performances--onefrom 1992 and two from '94, 2ND SET is NOT therecording of half of a single night's playing. Someonehoping to relive the warmth and excitement ofLIVE AT THE FILLMORE EAST in a more modern settingwill have to settle for a put-together, but verynice follow-up to EVENING.The twin-guitar collaboration of Warren Haynes and DickeyBetts works well throughout 2ND SET, with some then-new material (Soulshine, Back Where It All Begins)long-time favourite The Same Thing, and an excellent, acoustic reading of In Memory of Elizabeth Reed. The cover art for 2ND SET is just a re-tinted, semi-solarized version of of the picture on AN EVENING WITHTHE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND: First Set, with one of the line-upon the earlier album literally cut out. I guess the word"cheesy" might apply, but the music on the cd is very good.Listeners who liked EVENING but might not overly familiarwith the ABB's in-concert repertoire can pick up a singledisc follow-up collection that contains some very appealingperformances.of this quality.
