This book is a wonderful reference on each step of process. There are clear photos, and instructions. The author has a great sense of humor. It includes info ( important) on choosing cloth, yarns, punch needles. It goes further by illustrating how to finish your project, so it looks well done. There is much light- hearted, but seriouscaveats about things which should be avoided to avoid unnecessary pain & difficulty. A COMPLETE guide to this craft.! Review: Helpful to both beginner and more advanced looking for tips on designing! - I enjoyed both the how-to (clearly described via words and images), the history of punch needle rugs, and the encouragement! Amy Oxford’s informal writing/teaching style makes it feel like she is in your den alongside you with a cup of coffee (well, tea...you will learn she isn’t a coffee drinker)! I was at first disappointed that there was no kindle version. Then, I started working remotely. Can’t tell you how nice it is to hold a hard copy of a great book! No excuse to check the computer/ipad/kindle. Just get the book, your punch needle and supplies. Invite Amy in and enjoy the creation! (My first experience with punch needle rug making was via Amy’s pear kit (amyoxford.com), and I watched her videos taking you though, step by step, the pear project before purchasing this book. I knew there would be more to learn and tips/galore that I could use. Worth the purchase and the time.)

The only book you’ll need
This book covers everything, and I mean everything. How to punch, yarns, backing, building your own frames, transferring patterns, designing, hemming, troubleshooting, several practice projects, and some history. Very easy to follow. You may find yourself reading it from cover to cover like me.

The standard work
I have found this book helpful and was pleased to see the author’s work plus the other artwork by different fiber artists. The beginner projects are appropriate and the instructions are good (although I really needed to supplement them with the authors uTube videos). My one quibble is that the sequence of chapters isn’t particularly intuitive (at least not to me) and I found myself skipping around to find what I wanted to know. For example, if one is thinking of buying one of the author’s punch needles, one has to leap into the middle to find a discussion of the sizes and uses. Thank goodness there is an index but it isn’t comprehensive

Great book
This book is very well written for the self taught beginner. The pictures are plentiful and very helpful. You really can learn punch needle hooking from it.
