I bought this product because I have been having durability issues with Thunderbolt cables. I have tried different brands, but I always end up having issues with the cables falling apart after just a short amount of time. They do not last very long at all. When I realized how much I was spending on cables, I decided to try something else. I have been using this cable for several days now. It is not nearly as fast to charge my MacBook and my other devices, but it works just fine. It seems to me like it is better made and higher-quality. I'm going to get a few more. edit 11/2020: the metal piece came off of one of the USB connectors. anker says their products are guaranteed and agreed to replace it once I sent it back
