The Story of the Hydration Bladder who became a Get Home Bag!
This is not my first CamelBak Hydration pack. I also have the CamelBak ThermoBak 3.0 Liter Hydration System, which is also a very solid part of my kit. Since this isn't just a hydration pack, I'm going to break my review into two sections - one to address the hydration bladder performance and secondly, the outer pack itself. The Hydration bladder is a anti-microbial bladder, 3 liters in size that is made out of a very durable material. I removed the bladder from the pack to check it out and I was IMPRESSED with the durability. I also really like that the drinking nozzle has a quick release. This makes feeding the tube through the shoulder straps a breeze. They will also feed through the straps on your chest rig or another pack if you want. The hose also has a quick disconnect at the bladder, which makes removing the bladder amazingly simple. Disconnect the lower hose, loosen the strap at the top of the pack and slip the neck out of the large opening. Prior to using the pack, I rinsed it out thoroughly - you should use a mild soap to help remove the residual new bladder taste. I did not, but before the bladder was half empty, the water tasted fine. Speaking of water - I put some ice cubes from the hotel ice machine in my bladder prior to leaving. It was a pretty warm day in Boston and the pack was on my back continuously, (except at dinner). I filled the bag around 0900 and we returned to the hotel around 2030 (8:30 PM) and the water was still more cool than cold tap water. It wasn't ice cold, but it was pleasantly cool and enjoyable to drink. That's 11 hours. Now I'm not going to expect that same performance in Texas where it's already almost 100 degrees, no would I expect that performance in the 'Stan, but it's safe to say that the pack does have some pretty solid insulating qualities. Speaking of the pack...What separates the "Ambush Hydro Pack" from the others is the space it affords the user. Let me explain. I often use a Maxpedition Versipack Jumbo to carry various things in when we are out and about - sightseeing or whatever. Recently we were going on a whale watch which had us on the boat for about 4 hours in the sun, so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to test out my Ambush pack, not only would I save from paying outrageous 'boat prices' for water, I would have a place to carry my OEDC (Other then EDC) items. First Aid pack, chargers, some food bars, camera, maps, etc. So I went about transferring the contents from my Versipack to my Ambush Hydro Pack and I was amazed at how much I fit in the pack! Basically I can take this hydration pack, and create a get home bag out of it! It has plenty of storage on the bottom and also on the top section of the pack. I fit my first aid kit, food bards, flashlight, maps, lighter, fire starting kit, a lock-blade knife, and several more items. ALL of it in my Ambush Hydration Pack. Solid! So if you are looking for a hydro-pack that has storage - look no further. An added bonus that I really appreciated and used was the PALS webbing that is on the lower pouch. I attached a Tactical Tailor Multipurpose Pouch to the PALS and it gave me even additional storage while the pack still remained very symmetrical and rode very well on my shoulders. I will take some pics later this evening and come back to post. It's a very solid setup, very solid kit. I paid full price for this item and take great pleasure in leaving a review for this product. Here is the link for the Tactical Tailor Fight Light Multi-Purpose Pouch (By the way it's cheaper here than on Tactical Tailor's website. Also note this is the FightLight version and not the heavier version. I have both, and they are both great pouches.

Best Water Bag I've Owned, But Little Room for Hauling Gear
The media could not be loaded. This is the 5th or 6th water backpack that I've owned, and I went with this name-brand Camelbak instead of a knock-off brand, knowing that it's much more expensive, because I've come to appreciate the little details that Camelbak puts into their bags. I wanted a BPA free bag, and many are not. And I wanted to try out this more boxy style and shape. The other really nice hydration bag I've owned is a Northface, just in case you're shopping around.Check out my video if you want a full walkthrough of this bag.Okay, so features of this bag that I like: The nozzle valve is great, and neoprene cover on the tube is a plus. Great shape and comfort. Huge volume of water is a plus on hot days, and I love how easy it is to add ice to the bag. Cool overall styling and look. Not my go-to bag for storage and carrying gear. But definitely my go-to bag when I only really need cold water out there.

Looks good.
Have not used this product in the field yet. That is why I've given it a 4 out of 5 stars. Wife and I like to do day hikes, the Camelbak will be used a lot. It seems good quality on closer review when I got my hands on it. I am sure it will perform well.

3 liters allows you to drink what you want without having to "ration" like the one and two letter packs
Thrilled with this Camelbak! The mil spec model is head & shoulders above the rest of the line. 3 liters allows you to drink what you want without having to "ration" like the one and two letter packs. Kept water cold for 6-1/2 hrs in the Florida sun...kept it cool for 9 hrs SUPing on a 30 mile paddle. The two compartments are big enough to be useful but not too big. Even carry an extra 20 oz bottle of frozen water with electrolytes under the sinch strap between the top and bottom compartments.Very comfortable and first rate quality. Will be purchasing a second one to attach to my board to expand my range soon.

Better than I expected.
All I need is this and a game bag for hunting in the early season. I needed something to keep me hydrated without getting in the way going through thick brush in a ghille suit in 85 degree weather. The color will blend in well in the winter for predator hunting. The webbing on the front is nice and tough. I use it to attach a small pouch. The straps are not padded. I have not found this to be an issue. Even with knives and ammo the pack's straps are enough even in a t shirt. It was worth ever dollar. It should last over 5 years of heavy use. I do not think Camelbak could have made a better pack for $100.

Great idea, but needs padded straps
I love the storage in this pack, but right from the start, I noticed the straps really hurt my clavicle bones. There is absolutely no padding which was a big issue for me. I'm bruised from wearing this on an almost 8 hour hike. I will research and reorder another Camelbak with padded straps. Everything else on the pack was great.

It works really great
The pack and hydration unit works great so far. I wish when I was looking at it they would have mentioned that it came with a water bladder already. So I wouldn’t have ordered a second one. i called the call center and the person on the phone told me it didn’t come with one.

Amazing.
Amazing. I have read people saying it keeps the water cold for a long time but when you're sweating for hours on your back it only takes about 2-3hrs before it gets warm. Holds plenty of little things such as some proteins bars, wallet, phone, bike tools and more. Appears to have an option for adding another pack to it. Material is amazing. Camelbak does it right and I love the color. Friend went with the mule and that things holds a ton, but this product does everything I need.

Smart design
I like this product, very smart the way the straps all get tidied up with Velcro and the cover on the hose is nice as well as being able to disconnect mouthpiece. Keeps water cold too ( throw a bunch of ice in in the morning and still have ice in the afternoon on hot days )Use it for enduro riding and don't even notice it's there
