Works great!
Love the analyzer and how it works, dislike is that fact that it did not come with the power cord. The power cord is how you charge the batteries if you use rechargeable ones.

Indispensable antenna building tool with a reliable warranty
Immediately after purchase I discovered a serious malfunction with the new MFJ-259D. I called the factory and talked to a knowledgeable person speaking in clear precise English promising to remedy the problem and quickly return the analyzer. MFJ had a new fully working unit back to me withing two weeks of my return. While more robust quality control would likely have avoided the initial problem, MFJ's response was outstanding. This type of antenna analyzer is indispensable for building radio antennae. The MFJ-259D is among the best I have used. Its lack of some advanced competitive features is offset by its fast and intuitive control. In short, it quickly produces the most important information needed... and, one need not carry a thick instruction manual. If there is a problem, they have good people.

Good for non-portable operation
It's the size and weight of a lunch box but does the job well. I have a BuddiStick Pro and need to dial in the length of the counterpoise each time I set it up. Right now I only have this MFJ-259D but it works. I like how the SWR constantly updates. I set it on the ground and then can adjust the length of the counterpoise until I reach the best SWR for that band in real time.

Will not go pass 27.344.
When set to 10.9-27.8 MHz it only go to 27.3-27.344 and all the way down to 10.662 on that same setting. Not sure if thats supposed to do that. I will be returning.

An essential instrument when working with antennas
The best feature is that the power on button is protected by a surrounding rim to prevent inadvertent turn on or turn off. The easy access battery compartment is a great improvement. As long as you do not need VHF or UHF measuring, this device is a very useful tool. It does a lot more than just measuring standing wave ratio, and the effort to learn to use the other valuable features is a valuable education in itself. It makes great sense to own and use one of these when you own one or more antennas and one or more radios.

Ham Radio Test Gear
If you know what this device is used for it will serve you well identifying all sorts of radio and antenna related problems. This is the third one I have bought in 25 years. The others failed due to operator error!
