Never Tickle A Tiger

Cute shenangians
My son loves this book and asks us to read it a lot. It follows little Izzy around who has a hard time sitting still and following directions. She is terrorizing all the animals and takes it upon herself to tickle the tiger which only causes more havoc! My son loves how the tiger sets off a chain reaction and points out all the silliness. We enjoy reading it as much as he does!

Great illustrations, Great story!
Wonderful illustrations (Marc Boutavant is one of my favorites) - I would have purchased the book purely for them...but then I heard that the story was good as well, so I didn't hesitate to order. This is a great story for kids who have a hard time sitting still (neurotypical kids, kids with ADHD, autism and sensory issues, etc) and even for kids who don't. My 5-year-old daughter loves all of the animals. My 1-year-old son (who definitely has a hard time sitting still!) loved looking at the animals in the illustrations too.

Printing Errors :(
This is a cute book, and very well illustrated. However, the copy I got has multiple repeat pages! This error makes the book unnecessarily distracting for children with ADHD and can derail the storyline.

Beautifully illustrated, with a nice message
My daughters and I really adore this book. They begged us to read it nightly for about a year straight. It’s beautifully illustrated, and the story really had a nice message for spirited little girls like mine. Highly recommended :)

Yes, she does tickle one.
I received a copy of the book in exchange for a fair and honest email on my blog Nayu's Reading Corner Izzy is a real sweet girl. I loved her clothes and those of her friends. It was fun seeing her unable to sit still, something which some readers will be able to relate to. (I'd just give her a ball of yarn and a crochet hook so she can learn to crochet to keep active!) I have to say I wasn't a figidity child, but I've known some and this book is perfect for them.Izzy is extremely daring in what she does, which, despite the consequences, she doesn't entirely learn her lesson at the end. Hopefully like minded readers will learn from Izzy's mistakes and not tickle a tiger – no good can ever come of it outside of a book! Plus I'm sure all readers would like their fingers in tact, which is what I thought may happen to Izzy who poked and prodded a fair few animals before the tiger.

A fun romp through the zoo and learning about consequences
I recently reviewed another of Butchart's books and would not have guessed they had the same author. Where that book was simple and taught bad messages this book was fun and showed the consequences of one's actions in a fun and silly way. I really liked the alliteration (tapping the turtles, poking the peacocks) which is good for my preschooler to help her with pre-reading skills such as letter recognition and letter-sound recognition. Many themes and lessons to expand upon with my three-year old.

Fun and silly!

Not for neurodivergents
I think this is damaging towards neurodivergents. The narrator admits it's hard for the girl to sit still despite her efforts. One action causes absolute chaos. Not a good book for those with add, autism, etc.

About a wiggler read by a jiggler
Our two year old is just like Izzy and she loves this story. I love that Izzy took responsibility and that most of the time I feel taking responsibility is that simple.
