![TO CATCH A THIEF - PARAMOUNT PRESENTS Volume 3 [BLU-RAY]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51CogUtr+yL.jpg)

Cary Grant plays John Robie, reformed jewel thief who was once known as "The Cat," in this suspenseful Alfred Hitchcock classic presented here newly remastered from a 4K film transfer. When Robie is suspected of a new rash of gem thefts in the luxury hotels of the French Riviera, he must set out to clear himself. Meeting pampered heiress Frances (Grace Kelly), he sees a chance to bait the mysterious thief with her mother's (Jessie Royce Landis) fabulous jewels. His plan backfires, however, and Frances, who believes him guilty, proves her love by helping him escape. In a spine-tingling climax, the real criminal is exposed. Review: Perfection Itself - What can I say? This is pretty much a perfect movie. Big, beautiful stars, a well crafted, well written, suspenseful story & fabulous scenery. It's one of the few movies where you can't really see any way it could be improved. It was before my time but I expect this is exactly why people went to the movies in the fifties. I'm so very pleased that it was given such a fine treatment on 4K. Review: Great movie - Classic Hitchcock.

Wonderful Hitchcock film.
This wonderful old Hitchcock movie received an excellent restoration, prompting this purchase. I am glad the team at Paramount, headed by Charlotte Barker, took the necessary care to bring the film back to life. Grace Kelly and Cary Grant head the cast. The other star of the film is the French Riviera. It was Hitchcock’s wife who suggested a unique filming technique for the time- put the camera in a helicopter! The resultant aerial perspective of the Grand Corniche is quite spectacular, given one of the earliest uses of VistaVision to maximize image detail. .

Darker image than Blu-ray transfer
My review is not for the movie itself starring Cary Grant, and Grace Kelly, which is superb and wonderful, my review is for the digital transfer. I am both a Blu-ray version and now the 4K version and the Blu-ray version is far better. The new 4K version that is sold is much darker and needs to be Optically brighter. You would have to turn the brightness up on your viewing device on the 4K to equal how bright the Blu-ray version is. Whoever transferred the original film to 4K must’ve decided to make the whole movie a shade darker than it should have been. I have taken photographs of images in this movie With my cell phone, both from the 4K version and the Blu-ray version. My DVD player and projector upscale to 4K and I cannot tell the difference between the upscale Blu-ray picture and the native 4K picture as far as detail and color.

Absolutely Stunning 4k Restoration
As for the movie, it’s a great Hitchcock and Cary Grant collaboration. See other reviews for movie details. This 4k restoration from Paramount is incredible. The colors, clarity, details, and the sound are off the charts. It is amazing that this almost 70 year old movie looks as amazing as it does. I believe this restoration rivals some of the newer movies that are shot digitally in 4k. This 4k restoration has “set the bar” pretty high for classic movies. If you like Cary Grant and or Hitchcock movies, this is a must buy.

This movie was amazing! Alfred Hitchcock did it again! If you are a fan of this work, this movie is a must have! From the costumes to the scenery, it was incredible! I love that this had the special features which included a behind the scenes which is so interesting to watch and see how things were made. Not to mention, Alfred's cameo!

The 4K UHD blu-ray is very nice
Certainly nothing to complain about. It's well worth the money. For those who already have the standard blu-ray, yes it's a nice upgrade although it's not an earth shaking upgrade. The benefit of 4K varies depending on the scenes. Some scenes it's not very noticeable at all if any, and other scenes it looks noticeably better. All in all, I've had the DVD, the standard blu-ray and now the 4K disc, and I'm very happy that I made the choice to upgrade. Of course, it's miles ahead of the DVD. In fact once you've had even the standard blu-ray, it's difficult to ever watch the DVD again. So yes, if you are lucky enough to own a 4K UHD blu-ray player, then by all means, buy this new 4K UHD upgrade. On a Hitchcock film, any improvement in image quality, however incremental, brings you closer to the original experience the audience had in the theater back when it was first released.

Basically the home movies of Hitchcock's paid vacation to the French Riviera. It's not exactly deep, but it sure is pretty. An incredible 4K release showcasing some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, and then there's Grace Kelly, who never looked better, and that's saying something. It's fun, and this is definitely the best release of it yet.
