Can scan multiple types of microchips and has PC software
Cheapest scanner that can scan multiple types of pet microchips. I volunteer with an animal rescue organizing so this is very helpful. The next best microchip scanners cost much much more, but do have more features and support. This is a good basic scanner. I have been able to scan: 134Khz FDX-B ISO 15 digit microchips 125Khz FDX-A 10 digit microchips 125Khz EM4102 (BME) tags Some 125 kHz AVID 9 digit microchips; but doesn't store them in history Sometimes detects presence of 9 digit encrypted microchips Because this scanner cannot scan all microchip types, if you don't find a chip you should double check with a professional scanner. For most cases this scanner will work. It's less common to find 10 or 9 digit microchips now. It's very easy to use, press the button on the back and you have about 20 seconds to scan a pet. If it finds a microchip it will beep, show the number, and store it in memory. Make sure to scan all over the animal because microchips have been known to move around. If you want to view the history, wait for the unit to turn off and hold the button for 4 seconds and release. Then scroll the history by pressing the button. If the unit detects that the pet has been reported as missing it will flag it, this only works if you use the software and keep the Scanner Angel software up to date. You may optionally connect the scanner to your Windows PC via an old and uncommon USB Mini-B type connector, in 2025 this really should be updated to USB C. The software is called Scanner Angel and must be downloaded from the Halo Scanner website. The software will access the history of all the microchips that have been scanned. It also had a database of missing animals and will flag if the scanned chip number has been indicated as missing; this is fairly limited because this only works if someone reported the pet missing to Scanner Angel's database.

Highly recommended!
I rescue abandoned/stray cats and either try to get them back to their families if they are lost or find them homes or non-kill shelters if they are abandoned. This enables me to identify them immediately if they have a chip. That helps immensely. The chip reader has not failed once yet and you barely have to wave it behind their neck and it picks up. Also an it will tell the temperature of a cat if their microchip has that Feature. Extremely nice if you have a sick cat who doesn't want a thermometer the traditional way. Highly recommend. A year and a half and I've used multiple times and have never had a problem yet. Holds a charge for a long time as well.

LITERALLY saved my overseas move! SO happy right now!
This scanner LITERALLY saved our entire move. I am SO RELIEVED right now. I am moving to the UK on a shoestring budget in just a couple of weeks, but one of my cats has an AVID chip not the standard ISO compliant chip. AVID chips are allowed, you just have to bring your own scanner to scan them. I could have gotten her implanted with a second, ISO compliant chip yesterday at her rabies shot appointment, but she's old and I didn't want to put her through that. So I did a quick look to see how affordable scanners were, saw a bunch in the $25-50 range, and told the vet not to worry about the chip and to just take care of her rabies shot (which must happen AFTER implanting, meaning now that she's had the shot, I CAN'T get her a second chip in time for our move ) What I didn't realize at that time was that the more affordable scanners I was seeing don't scan AVID chips, and I can't afford the AVID-specific ones. So I spent the evening stressing and worrying I had just ruined our entire overseas move plan.....until I found THIS scanner. The scanner is not specifically labeled as AVID compliant (it says it will pick them up, but not show the number, which won't work for travel), but it does say it will display standard 10-digit chip numbers. So I figured, let's gamble on it and pick it up. I can always return it if it isn't what I need. And ....it worked PERFECTLY!! It picked up Harley's AVID chip with no problem, and displayed the number exactly the way I needed it to. Crisis averted! UK, here we come! :)

Great to have!
Husband bought it for me. I aid in rescue and recovery of dogs and I also TNR. Plus 3 dogs of my own. I will always stop for any animal on the side of the road. So having one is a must! Did the recommended 3.5 hour charger. I immediately tried it on my 11 year old chihuahua who got his chip in 10 years ago. And it scanned immediately. So I scanned my other 2 and they popped up. I have a feral cat who’s apart of a different colony that’s been preferring my cats and brings me “presents.” So I wanted to scan her to see if she was chipped. She is still very nervous so I wasn’t able to find any scan. I scanned the others and the one I had done recent- that chip picked up. So it works! I will say the backing of the product looked a bit used. There’s some buffering wear on the back. But I was fine with it

Defective microchip scanner
The scanner that I ordered was supposed to be white, the one that Amazon sent is black, the label on the package said that the microchip scanner was black, but then someone put a label over that label that said that the microchip scanner is white. Normally, that wouldn’t be a problem, but I paid for a new item and this one appears to have been used, as it is dirty. Another problem is that when you push the button on the back of the scanner, it does not work. The scanner will not come on. I charged it for over 3 hours before I tried to use it so I think that the scanner is defective.

Great pet chip scanner!
Works quickly and is easy to use with both new and older scanning of pet chip codes. I also gifted one to our town officials, enabling them to greatly expedite reuniting found pets with their families, belonging locally or out of town.
