Helena Wood ArtElegant Handmade Wooden Backgammon Set/Mazel Veneer - 19.5 inch Board

I've long been a fan of backgammon, and I've always wanted to get myself a high-quality game board that I could enjoy playing on for many years to come. I chose to treat myself to this superb handmade wooden backgammon board from Helena Wood Art, and I am extremely pleased with it! The quality in the craftsmanship is top-notch, with absolutely beautiful wood inlay work in the points and the central star design, and even the checkers themselves are more than just basic disks. The checkerboard on the other side features some amazing mother-of-pearl in the white squares along with the fun patterns and designs around the border. It's apparent that a lot of time and care went into the making of this game board, and it's sure to become a treasured heirloom.The wood grain and burl give this board a very classy and artistic look, while the colors of the wood are able to shine through and stand out on their own without being overly ostentatious. It's not only a gorgeous game board, but it also compliments my home's decor quite nicely. The checkers are all quality wood pieces as well, shaped and smoothed so as to feel very nice in the hand. They're very easy to slide along the board and pick up during play due to the divots in their centers (these are on both sides of the checkers), and it's just satisfying to play with them as a result. I also love the wood guides along the edges that make it easier to align checkers with the points. That feature helped me to decide between this board and a different one.The board came with four dice, a doubling cube, and two extra checkers for a total of 16 of each color, all packed in a convenient fabric pouch. The pouch and its contents fit easily inside of the board when it's folded closed, and the whole then fits into an included cloth carrying case. The accessories are the only area where I do have some criticisms...Firstly, while all of the brown checkers are of equal size, the extra white checker is inexplicably smaller and darker than all the rest, and would therefore look rather odd and out-of-place if used. Second, the included dice are laughably bad. They're tiny (see photo with standard die for comparison) and seem to be made of very cheap plastic with slight dents in several of the sides. I ended up purchasing a nice set of Chessex dice to use with this board instead. Beyond that, though, the pouch, carrying case, and doubling cube are all perfectly fine!If you're a serious backgammon enthusiast and are looking for a very nice handmade game board, then I highly recommend Helena Wood Art. Even if this specific board design is out of stock, they have a variety of other options with different features, woods, and colors, as well as different sizes (I got the large size, myself). They also have an Etsy shop where you can see the various options, though I ended up buying from Amazon because their Etsy wouldn't accept my PayPal for some reason. So I've ordered a set of Chessex Dice to use with this Backgammon set. Other than that everything is perfect.
