Can you use this in the oven to bake the shells instead of frying them?

You could, there is no plastic on mine, its all SS metal. The height with the handle may be awkward, but I think it would fit most ovens on the lower shelf.

Will this fit a home deep fryer?

We bought two of these. We use them in a commercial environment in standard restaurant deep fryers. They are about the same size and shape as a regular fry basket. Good quality for the price. I would recommend as a good alternative to those cheap tong style, individual taco makers.

IT'S A UNIVERSAL FIT ITEM SO IT SHOULD FIT MOST DEEP FRYERS

Yes it is. I had to cut mine down to fit my fryer. I use ultra thin tortillas.
