Excellent LEGO Super Mario Starter Course!
Gabe- In my opinion, The Lego Mario Starter Course was good because the LEGO Mario made funny sounds and was enjoyable to play with and you can make a lot of different structures with your set. Mrs.Lee- In my opinion, The Lego Mario Starter Course was an excellent starter set for me to re-discover my love for LEGO building and construction. Gabe- I liked that Mario had a lot of different animations and that it wasn't boring and it was always interesting. One thing I liked about it was the way it knew what it was touching, like if you put it on the red Lego it would set on fire or if you put it on something that's red, it would do the same thing. I also like how when you back flip Mario, Mario would make sounds and if you bounce Mario up he will collect coins. Lastly, when you get Junior or Cooper- if you bounce on Junior’s shell or on Cooper's head, you can defeat them and collect coins and that seemed really fun to me. I like Lego Mario because it was very enjoyable and I had a lot of fun playing and building. Mrs.Lee- In my opinion, I liked being able to use the digital instruction manual the most. Instead of having a paper instruction manual, we were able to download the Super Mario App which had all of the directions for us step by step with diagrams. We were able to prop up our phones and move through the different parts of each building sequence. The diagrams were colorful, clear, and even animated in some parts. It was a nice way to save paper and collect all the information in one place! The app also had many other features- like a photo gallery where you could save pictures of your creations. I really enjoyed interacting with the digital instruction guide and app on my phone during this project! Gabe- What I disliked the most was that there was no real instructions on how to build the full castle. There was only instructions on how to build the parts. I wish there was instructions on how to build a prototype castle with the pieces. If Lego improved this starter kit I would tell them to make a mini castle diagram so if people don't want to make their own, they can make that one. Also, I would advise LEGO to make a diagram of a kingdom with all the pieces combined together. The thing I disliked about the Lego Mario Starter Course is that they didn't add a full build through of the set. Mrs.Lee- I didn’t really dislike anything about this starter set! But, if I had to pick something, I would say that it was easy to build all of the individual portions of the course, but much harder to put them together into a full course. I felt confused once it got to the end about how to assemble all the pieces to make a larger starter course. I ended up just being creative with how I wanted to place the pieces together to make a cool, fun, and interesting course for Mario to move through. I think adding this an example picture to follow would be a nice addition for all LEGO builders! Tips 1. Open just the bag that the instructions tell you to. Don’t open them all at once. 2. The instructions don’t tell you everything! Use your brain! 3. And at the end use your imagination 4. Be prepared with a screwdriver and batteries for your set. 5. Don't break or slam your set it so you can be careful not to break anything. 6. Always check the floor for runaway pieces if you have to clean up before you are done. 7. Make sure to download the Super Mario App before you start building. 8. Turn off MARIO when you are not using him so he does drain batteries.

NO book for instruction, MUST DOWNLOAD APP
**update at bottom** Ok, I get everything is expensive but for over $50 this starter course is the shabbiest little set! My kid loves it but I am mad there's NO booklet for instructions, if my kid wants the step by step he has to download an app on my phone that wants access to EVERYTHING, the whole point of legos is to be OFF electronics and I would have at least expected to have a choice if I wanted to do that or use the booklet which has worked perfectly for several decades for lego. Feels like theyre selling out like every other marketable toy on the market. **UPDATE** OK, I admit this is one of the coolest and most versatile lego sets, the mario character scanning the bar codes on the structures is awesome, there's unlimited possibilities for creating obstacle courses and I love how this set encourages creativity. Do I like the app part? No. Is it worth it? Yea. Still want a booklet but the app does give a young child video ideas for how the set was designed to work. I had to change my original post because it's really worth it... I got lost playing it for an hour yesterday myself.

The characters are great quality
Great

It is actually a lot of fun.
I purchased the Mario set for my 5 year old son and he loves it. The set is made of the same Lego quality we are all used to. What makes it great is the fact you can purchase other character sets and put them together as one. It includes enough pieces to create a mini stage with platforms, drops, water, fire etc, just like in the videogames. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because the app used to link the "action figure" or character is extremely slow and buggy. The good news is you can still use your character without the app as it has a sensor in the bottom which interacts with the different block colors (blue is water, red is fire) and makes sounds when set on top of them. Will definitely recommend.

A wonderfully innovative crossover!
I have two kids, an 11 year old who loves Legos, and an 8 year old who doesn't. My 11 year old got this for Christmas along with a few others, and in short order has spent all of his Christmas money on buying add-on sets because he loves this set so much. My 8 year old enjoyed playing it so much, she took the Christmas money from her grandparents and asked me to buy her own set so that she would have her own Mario to play with and they could play together. And they do! They love it, and I love it. But this set isn't just a simple Lego builder. The Mario figures are electronic! They turn on and have reactions to different colors and motions and can interact with the set in cool ways. Additionally, they are Bluetooth compatible so you can connect the Mario to a device and "play" a Mario game on it while manipulating the real Mario along the Lego set. To do that you need to download an app, but the app also comes with building instructions and some other fun content that the kids enjoy. I was very happily surprised by this system. I assumed it was just another cool looking Lego set. But the interactive features and imaginative play possibilities really set it apart from other toys. It has occupied dozens of hours of my children's time - and get this - they're not even fighting! ....well, after my daughter got her own, anyway. ;)

Super easy to build, a but tricky to connect to phone to upload the sets to mario. But once done its very fun and battery lasts a very long time. Recommend getting rechargeable so you dont have to keep buying
