OMM ORIGINAL MOUNTAIN MARATHON Men's Kamleika Jacket

I read a lot of reviews of this jacket before making a purchase and there was a lot of raving about the waterproof qualities. I've now worn it out three times in the rain. Fairly light to medium rain. Not at all heavy.Pros. Lovely material. Stretchy, attractive and light. And it generally seems well made. Keeps you warm enough without overheating. I've run in 15/16 degrees with no problem at all.Cons. It's not waterproof. At all. It really isn't. Ive worn the hood up with the toggles pulled right. Wrist straps right, zip up to the neck. Even on a 45 minute light jog I came back soaked to the skin. The rain doesn't run off the jacket like an ordinary waterproof, it soaks in. There is a waterproofing layer on the inside, it just doesn't seem to work.Could be faulty perhaps.

Needed to get a waterproof after running in recent blizzards in Scotland. Got the OMM Kamleika and in terms of warmth, water resistance and being wind proof it certainly ticks the boxes. The large pockets are handy and the jacket is comfortable except the hood. It’s a great shame there isn’t a proper way to fold away and conceal the hook when it’s not raining. When you do fold the collar in on itself it’s really uncomfortable and annoying as the vast majority of the time the hook isn’t needed. The orange stitching is also fraying which is a shame. And that’s after only 6 or 7 long runs. In summary, a good jacket that largely does what it’s meant to do but unfortunately there’s a few annoying things that let it down and stop it from being the perfect jacket. I’ve also found it too warm in temperatures over 5 degrees.

As an all-weather runner, my existing jacket was rubbish. It was okay in the fine rain but for serious distance in a downpour, it was pathetic. This jacket is snug, comfortable, stretchy and a delight to wear. It breaths so I did not expire in it. Nothing keeps torrential rain out completely but this jacket did its job well.

I had been looking for a waterproof softshell for running for awhile. This was a bad choice. I cannot speak for durability or waterproofness, but the interior is completely coated in a very rubbery finish. I tried this on with a t-shirt and immediately felt uncomfortable. The rubber pulled at the hairs on my arms and wrist. The jacket felt suffocating and not breathable at all. I can only imagine how it would feel when I started to sweat on a run or hike. I ended up with the Rab Kinetic Plus jacket which has a soft liner, better pockets, better zippers, better hood and only marginal weight increase.

There are a lot of choices for running jackets, and they vary in price and quality. What sets the OMM Kamleika apart is simply that it fits well, works with you for the whole running motion and balances terrific water and wind proofing with breathability. Surprised by the negative reviews for this item. I am delighted with mine.
