Continued Reflections of a Trout Bum
In reading this book by Gierach and comparing it to all of the other books by this author, I find that I continue to enjoy his books about his trout fishing experiences and the many other fishermen with whom he writes about. I guess his descriptions of not only the fish, places and circumstances of which he writes are enjoyable and can be comparatively reflected in my own person fishing experiences, but also those parts of his writing in which he reflects on and describes his encounters with others who are not fishermen and his thoughts of these encounters. They tend to remind me how others look at old fishermen, especially those that keep to themselves pretty much as well as fish alone. Continue to enjoy his books.

Another Classic!!!
The author has a knack for articulating not only his personal thoughts and adventures in the world of fishing but he has a way of easing his easing his thoughts on all subjects into a level of philosophy. As usual you find yourself agreeing with logic and passion. Just enough time left before work to buy the next book......

Grand Collection of Fishing Stories
The way he tells the stories with colorful expressions makes it very enjoyable. If you fly fish you'll find yourself nodding in agreement because you've done the same thing or you can at least see how it could happen. Great book to read while you are waiting for the trout streams to go down after too much rain.

Least of the Best but Still Great
I've given a number of Geirach's books as gifts. They are a real joy and a bright spot in my day. I always come away feeling a little better about the world and a little more hopeful about what the day has in store. Of all of his books, this is my least favorite - though still worthy of 5 stars. It seems to be a little more focused on political issues surrounding water conservation related to drought at the time. Still, that is a minor distraction. I'll still be reading and rereading this one, like all his others.

Another great Gierach book.
Another great fly fishing book where Gierach shares his love for the outdoors and nature. It's always refreshing to read about his concerns for protecting the environment.

Fly fish? If you haven't discovered Gierach, you're missing a treat
Some of the most thoughtful musings on fly fishing for trout, bass, salmon, steelies, whatever. This isn't just entertainment; it's literature. Consistently funny, clicheless and, if you're one us flyrodding nuts, informative. The flyrod club has bestowed the crown of "master" on many authors of classics of our literature. Starting with Trout Bum, Gierach's contributions already have joined that exclusive club. They're so amusing, you may not take them seriously at first. But gradually you'll realize the guy's inability to waste a word and his ability to use the flyfishing discipline as a vehicle for expressing lessons he's learned about life.

Continued excellence
Again, another great read. However, in his last few books, I've noticed a thread of melancholy that was absent in his earlier works. In his earlier books (e.g., "Trout Bum", "Sex, Death, and Fly Fishing"), there was a cocky, swagger-like tenor to his writing. In his later books, such as his one, Gierach seems to be doing alot more nostalgic tripping, and lamenting his increased frailty (recent operation, reliance on pain pills, a more measured approach to hiking treks, etc.). This is not a criticism, just an observation.

All of John Gierach books are amazing. I love his writing style
All of John Gierach books are amazing. I love his writing style. I am a fly fishing guide up in Alaska, so reading John Gierach books brings me back to my home waters of Colorado. I would recommend these books to anyone who has a passion for fly fishing.

Still Life with Brook Trout
This is a writer I rate very highly, I have read all his books and would red them all over again.not a lot about fishing but loads of well written, good character moments.... I could recommend any of his books for fishermen who like a good read on life around fishing. Wonderful books and looking forward to another by John Gierach if he write another....David T

Great read. Can’t put his books down.
I enjoy all John Gierach’s books. I don’t always agree with everything he says but generally agree with his outlook on fly fishing. I’ve got several of his books now and I’ve loved reading all of them.
