I bought two of these. They were easy to mount and set up. Note these are only sensors, and do not make an alarm sound by themselves – they send a RF signal to other devices which make the alarm sound or call someone, and you have to buy these other devices separately. I paired mine to the EWD-1 so that the EWD-1 provides the alarm sound. False alarm rate of the sensor depends on where they are pointed – one on a shady side of the house rarely goes off (a few times a day, but these could be due to critters moving thru the sensor field-of-view), while another on a sunnier side of the house goes off more often, but it has been kind of windy so it is possible that the wind is moving something that sets it off. Seems to be somewhat insensitive to moving branches setting them off. I have mine mounted about 6½’ off the ground, and they can detect motion up to 20’ away. Be aware that these are passive IR sensors, and cannot be used thru walls or windows like the EWD-1 can (the EWD-1 uses RF to detect motion, which can go thru walls and windows). I have a couple of minor complaints and suggestions:1) The info in Amazon does not make it clear that that these are IR sensors. I thought they were RF sensors like the EWD-1, and could sense thru walls and windows, so I bought a couple of the indoor versions of these besides the outdoor versions. I returned those after discovering they would not work thru doors or windows.2) When I returned the indoor versions, I did receive most of my money back but they kept about $5 for each one I returned for shipping and restocking.3) These sensors are actually meant to be part of a system, but the info in Amazon does not explain what other components are needed to put the system together. I had to figure that out by myself.4) These sensors are only battery-operated. I wish they also provided a power cord so they could also operate from a wall plug, so I don’t have to worry about changing batteries (have no idea how long the batteries are going to last).5) The sensors have a blinking light on them, which is suppose to tell you when the batteries are low. However, they seem to blink occasionally during normal operations. I don’t want people to spot the sensors at night, so I covered up the blinking light with tape, which will make it hard to see when the batteries are low. Wish the light only blinked when the batteries were low so I don’t have to use the tape.6) The mounting bracket has a ball joint to allow the sensor to be pointed. However, the ball joint has limited range, so couldn’t point it as far downward as I wanted to. To be fair, I mounted it on lap siding, so the bracket was actually tilted a little at a backward angle, but I think this is a common situation and should have been accounted for in the design.7) Wish the vendor would post on Amazon the instructions that come with the sensor so that people can better understand what they are buying.Overall I’m satisfied at the moment, and would recommend these to others, but have to knock the rating down by a star because of the above criticisms.
