White Box: Fantastic Medieval Adventure Game

Awesome OSR TTRPG
The content is amazing for the price. I started playing TTRPGs when I was a kid in the 80s. This is both nostalgic and streamlined. Includes ascending armor class and the original THACO rules. The price is great. I bought all three cover variants and gave away one to a friend who wanted to start playing ttrpgs.

Great rules for a great price.
I got exactly what I wanted. The rules are easy to understand and perfect for people who want a simple (for an RPG) game to play with friends. If you want the most in-depth RPG system you can buy this is not the game for you, however if you say run a gaming club or play with a group that is not supper rules heavy this game seems like a blast. I have yet to play a game of it, but the rules are quite suited to the kind of gamers I tend to play with. I have many game books with tons of rules for games i have played and most of that ends up going unutilized with my players. Personally I think it is neat to have a game that if everyone wants a copy of the rules in the group can be played comfortably at less than 6$ a player. I think it depends on how much rule defined depth you and other players want but I will say, it is priced to play. In a 5 person group everyone can own a copy of the rules for under 30$. I feel that it may appeal more to casual players but for me that is a good thing.

Great book for a rules-light RPG experience
A great collection of streamlined old-school RPG rules based on old designs, but open to newer ideas. A nice framework with just enough detail to not get in the way of your imagination. The artwork is styled to fit the book perfectly. Cannot beat the price.

The best cheap RPG out there.
At 5 bucks I bought this almost out of a morbid curiosity. How bad would the print quality/content have to be to be cheaper than a sandwich on a chain store? Turns out not only is it ludicrously cheap, it's a great recreation of the classic rules set, it's got illustrations and while the print quality isn't something to run home and tell folks about it is far from bottom of the barrel. The fact you could buy 30 of these before getting close to the MSRP of current editions makes this one of the best bargains in the hobby.

Authentic OSR experience
The book is very well done. The illustrations are beautiful while being true to their oldschool image. The rules are for a very simple game for those who wanted a closer feel to 1st edition D&D. There's less options, less classes, races and monsters. And that is part of it's charm. However this comes with some of the bad stuff: the armor system (both of them), just like in old school games, are more complicated than they need: you shouldn't need a table to figure if you hit or not. The game is less focused on customization (in fact, there's barely any) and more in dungeon crawling. But it is also DEADLY.As a new player coming from D&D, this was actually pretty refreshing, but I don't see my group playing White Box more than a couple of sessions.

Greatest OSR retro clone available.
This is an excellent game that gives you more than enough to begin playing. The rules are clearly written and the layout makes sense. The rules were written to mimic the play of the original game and as such are very lite. The rules aren’t meant for “epic” style play like one would see in later editions and it totally omit arbitrary rules that could simply be handled by rolling an attribute check. Also since the game is so lite you could hack it and make it your own without totally wrecking balance, this also lends well to using published materials from later editions. All in all it’s worth the 5$ price tags and the author is the hero of the rpg community for selling this at such a low price tag. I ordered two more copies to have at my table for the players to use.

OSR Perfection!
At this price, this book it worth it for the artwork alone! Excellent OSR rules to incorporate into you next adventure. Why continue to be a "servant" to those costal magic users? You can get this and be FAR ahead of the "game." This is what "the game" was meant to be! This would make Gary proud. I use this rule set mixed with a few others and give all the players something that is not bloated. tired of feeding that "money hungry" machine? Do the right thing and order this book!

The best Rpg book you can buy.
For anyone looking for a table top game game that is light on rules and heavy on old school fun, this is your book. Not only is it one of the cheapest rpg books you can find, it's also a blast to play. This is the only role playing book ive loved so much that I bought a second copy (one with alternate art). The system itself organizes old school white box D&D into a book small enough to toss in your bag and take anywhere (the book not much bigger than my hand). This book also adds options to give a more modern touch to some of the more outdated mechanics. For instance it offers stats for both ascending and descending armor class for you to choose based on preference. It also offers plenty of suggestions for house rules if something isn't working out for your group. If you want to spend less time preparing and more time playing this book is all you need.
