Pump shuts off with thermostat - fatal design flaw
It's very well built, the circulation pump is nice but... it doesn't pump once the thermostat shuts off the heater. So the coolant in the unit heats up quickly, faster than the pump moves it, then the thermostat shuts it off. This shuts the pump off too. Rather than keeping the pump on to pull more cold coolant in then turn it back on, the coolant just sits there until the temperature drops below the setpoint inside of the heater. I installed it, started the engine, made sure there were no leaks and the line was fully filled with coolant then let it sit overnight. My block heater timer is set to come on at 3am, and run until 8am. I came out at 7:30am, heard the pump cycle on once for 15 seconds, then off for about 5 minutes, outdoor tempterature was 33F, block temperature where coolant entered was 44F. I have 5/8" ID heater hoses, its not plugged at all - actually run a collant filter too, new water pump new radiator, the coolant system in spotless, yet the pump will not move enough coolant to keep itself running. It's a shame, all they had to do was have the pump wired to run all the time, and leave the heating element controlled by thermostat.
