Not just any pole!
This pole can really get erect. It's sturdy, easy to set-up, and won't go limp. The power outlet on the shaft comes in hand for seasonal decorations. I stuck mine in the front yard and the neighbors love it!

So far, so good
The light pole looks great in my front yard. Really lights up the area. The solar eye and accessory plug is a nice option. You can plug in lights for holidays and wrap them around your pole.

Having trouble getting a defective part replaced
The pole arrived as expected, in good shape, and much sooner than expected. When we installed it and began to wire the post, we realized, after two hours of rewiring, that the sensor sent with the pole did not work. We found this out by replacing the sensor sent with the pole with the sensor from our old pole. I have contacted the company twice and have yet to receive a response, hence the one star. I just want a replacement sensor; the pole is installed and I have no issues with it at all. The same pole was available for order from Home Depot; I might order from them next time as the customer service is immediate and in person. Will update this review if and when I receive a response.**Sunday, Sept. 8th - received a message from the company five days ago - they promise to send a replacement by USPS. Will update when it arrives. **Update again - new sensor arrived as promised so upgraded to 5 stars!

Solus makes a great product.
I replaced my twenty-two year old Solus lantern post with this new type that has an outlet for Christmas lights and a sensor that causes the Post Light to go on at dusk and off at dawn. I does just that. It is a nice feature to have, when it gets dark early and you return from the shopping trips and the yard light is on. Also, it conserves electricity to go off automatically at dawn and it prolongs the life of the lightbulb.

Looks Great!!!!
This is exactly what i was looking for, i had to cut it down a little to make it work with the underground wiring, but it looks great!

Nice features but poor installation instructions and methods
The most attractive aspect of this Solus Lamp Post is that it includes 2 of the most desirable options (convenience outlet and photo control sensor). For those installations where the pole light (e.g., lamp post light) is controlled by an interior light switch, you can leave the switch in the on position and rely on the sensor to turn the pole light on when it gets dark and off in the AM when the sun comes up which saves you electricity and might give you peace of mind. The sensor takes about 5 seconds to respond to changes in light. This is not a do it yourself project for those who do not have a basic understanding of electric wiring due to the generally poor quality of the Solus instructions. The major deficiencies with the instructions include the following;1. Wiring instructions are provided for installation with the photo control wiring OR the convenience outlet but not for the installation of both options.2. The instructions state that if you want the photo control to control the outlet (the outlet would only be energized when it is dark) then you need to “connect photocell first” without explaining how to connect the wiring to accomplish this.3. For some reason, the instructions for the photo control are duplicated on the same page (see Pic A attached). I wasted a couple of minutes trying to determine if there was a difference between the 2 wiring diagrams and there isn’t.4. Both the installation guide and the instructions for wiring the photo control and the outlet show the hot line (e.g., load, positive or + wire) as being black. Most people will dig up their old pole and find that there isn’t a black wire. If you are replacing an existing pole and if the existing pole light is controlled by a light switch (usually inside of a door that the walkway lit by the pole leads to), then per electrical codes you will see a yellow wire (see pic of my installation) that replaces the black wire and indicates a switched hot wire. The instructions should have specified “black or yellow” rather than just “black”.5. The wire leads from the outlet are too short. Given that light fixtures for pole lights usually have wire leads that are only about 6” long, wiring the 2 options AND the fixture and supply lines will be beyond the skills of most people. Basically, you need to do the following;a. Pull the wires for the supply and photo sensor out of the top of the pole.b. Connect these wires to each other and the wires for the light fixture.c. Push them down the pole and then pull them out of the side mounting hole for the outlet.d. Connect the wires for the outlet to the other wires.e. Push the wires in from the outlet mounting hole and then mount the outlet and photo sensor (after you test the wiring!!).I had the appropriate color and gauge of wire on hand so I found it easier to just splice in 9 inch wires to each of the outlet wires. Then I was able to pull all of the wires out of the top of the pole and do the connections there. There are a number of improvements that could have been easily and cheaply made by Solus that would have benefited the consumer including;1. The instructions for the convenience outlet specify that you should use the 3/8 #6 self-tapping screws while the photo control instructions don’t specify which screws to use. The product comes with 2 silver screws and 2 black screws. The instructions could have specified that the “longer, silver screws should be used for mounting the convenience outlet”.2. The spacing between the top and bottom mounting holes for the sensor and outlet are slightly different. Consequently, Solus drills 2 screw holes above and 2 screw holes below both of the larger mounting holes. Consequently, after the installation is complete you have 2 holes that would allow water to enter the pole and run down on top of the sensor inside of the pole. Some rubber plugs or even some extra screws that could be used to seal these holes would have been appreciated. Also, since the installation will be done outside, probably in the grass, I’m sure that some people loose screws. It would have been helpful if Solus had put a couple of extra screws in the kit to replace lost screws.3. The photo sensor should have a gasket to prevent water intrusion.4. When I unpacked the pole I could not find the photo control. I shook the pole thinking that the photo control might be inside of the pole like the outlet was but nothing came out. Fortunately, I thought to get a flashlight and found the sensor a couple of feet up inside the pole and needed a broom stick to get the sensor dislodged. I wonder how many reports Solus gets of the sensor being missing.5. I really didn’t want the sensor but not installing the sensor would have left a large open hole in the side of the pole. Including a cover for a mounting hole for people who don’t want one or the other option would have been helpful.6. The exterior finish on the pole is a rough matte which scuffs easily. I would have preferred a smooth, semi-gloss finish.
