Great book with printing errors.
This is a great little overview book. Lots of interesting examples in the photos, and introduction to many topics within pottery. It's really a collection of intros, not a deep dive into anything. Would be a great gift for a beginner who is enthusiastic and trying to decide what to explore. However, the copy I received has a few terrible printing errors. In the attached photo, you can see an entire paragraph from page 124 where a second paragraph is printed on the first, Making an unreadable mess. I'd love to know more about the lovely vase, but the description is lost. I can't believe any publisher would miss errors this bad. I am not impressed with the Quarto Publishing Group. They've done this author a disservice. Thankfully, most of the book is fine, but it makes a few moments like this frustrating. So be warned that it's a great book with flaws.

Great book
This book had me turning page after page. So informative and beautiful pictures. I am a novice working with clay. This book gives you a great overall look at what pottery is all about. I gifted it to three friends who are involved in working with clay. Great purchase!!

Inspiring ideas for a beginner
Just started and now more of the descriptions make more sense. The techniques - some elementary and some advanced - are inspiring for future dreams :)

I thought it provided very good information. I liked the illustrations and there were enough to make it clear on the instructions. There could have been more information on troubleshooting, such as what could happen and what to do, such as if a pinch pot gets too wet to work with or too much water is added to a pot on the wheel, etc. But it is a good recourse book to look things up as a refresher course, especially with the glaze information.

Rename to " cliff notes for Potter's Bible" would be more fitting
I was hoping for a little more with this book. It does go over many many things but stops short on all of them. It is a short read I finished in one evening. Just a lot of bits of information. May be rename to the cliff notes for the potter's bible would be more fitting. But it was shipped fast and in new condition

Excellent reference
This is great as a companion/refresher book to the Communiversity pottery class I took a few years ago. I don't know if it would be able to teach me pottery if I had not had hte class.

A good little book covering pottery.
I majored in Art Education, and had several pottery classes. Everything seems to be coverd in this little book. I guess I need more books to refresh my memory.

Para Iniciantes
Muito bom para ceramistas iniciantes.Livro expõe um apanhado geral das técnicas empregadas em cerâmica sem se aprofundar em detalhes.

Not comprehensive
I bought this book after downloading the Kindle sample as I liked the writer's style. Anyhow, it arrived this morning. I was a little surprised by how small it is; roughly the size of an A5 year to page diary, but that's not a bad thing and the concealed spiral bind does allow it to open flat.Content wise, it covers nearly all common techniques although not in great depth. Noticeably there is very little help on troubleshooting, and the health and safety chapter is tucked away at the back instead of being one of the first chapters (naughty!).Most annoying was the pinch pot project that is designed to be fired in a bucket of sawdust. Great, I thought. I can do a sample burn in the garden. Get to the kilning/firing section...no mention of a bucket...wtaf?The layout is very similar to a DK type book, although in fairness there are plenty of examples with technical details given as a basis for experiment, plus a reasonable selection of glaze recipes which are often scarce. I just don't feel that this is comprehensive enough to class as a "Bible". It also seems in places a bit dated; for example suggesting manual kick wheels were cheaper than electric, but after extensive Googling the cheapest kickwheel I found was over £300 while you can get a half decent electric wheel similar to the one I used in school in the late 70s for around £160 here on Amazon. (Personally I use a mini 12v wheel at the moment, although upsizing may happen, as my main interest is 12th scale miniature making)So to sum up, it's a great little ideas book, not worth the full price (I bought mine via Marketplace), but I suspect that the Simon Leach book I have on order will prove more in-depth (more on that when it arrives)

Good book
I bought this book as a present for someone. Looking through it, it looks like a useful resource for beginners/amateur potters. It has good quality pages and coloured pictures which make it a nice gift for someone starting out in pottery.

Thoroughly recommend
Haven't used it properly as yet, but from a quick flick through it looks perfect and a good inspirer! Also I love the spiral bound inside, so much more practical than having to keep a book open. Great book would definitely recommend
