Great for bettas!
I now have 3 of these heaters. They've lasted me several months now and still work nicely. I keep bettas, and as any learned betta keeper knows, bettas require heated water and a minimum of 5 gallons. (Yes, that's true. Those pet store employees that sold you a tiny half-gallon bowl are wrong.) I tried a more expensive brand heater once and it almost cooked my swimmyboy. It's safe to say I'll stick to this heater for a while. I'll also note for anyone new to the hobby; heaters are not immune to malfunctions. No matter the kind, there is always a risk. Please keep a thermometer in your tanks as a second way of recording the temp in your aquarium.

Design killed my Betta
The design is flawed and although it seemed to work well, the back is open to the coil by design and my Betta fish got inside and wrapped around the coil which cooked him.I wish that I could return it for a refund but I I would like to dissuade anyone else from "cooking" their pet fish.

Fish Trap
It was actually really sad, while the heating mechanism worked great, our beloved pet beta, Beethoven, got stuck stuck in the coils just swimming around and exploring. This things killed my fish.

Perfect with a minor tweak
Perfect heater with a minor tweak. I use this one to heat up a 6.5 tank. I’m terrified of cooking my fish, so the temp reader puts me at ease. Previous reviews shared that their betas would get caught and killed by the suction cup area of the heater, so I took the advice of one review by wrapping it with loofa webbing. However, I found that the webbing would hold a lot of the heat in the immediate area, so the heater would be triggered to turn off before the heat distributed to the rest of the tank. My solution was to take the same loofa webbing and wrap them around the suction cups so the fish couldn’t pass through the potential dangerous area. Ponyo is a warm, healthy, and happy fish now :)

Perfect heater for small aquarium
The media could not be loaded. I have a ten gallon aquarium and have struggled finding a 50w heater that fits in the tank and is 100% submerged. Other heaters I bought were always too tall and I had to end up returning them. This heater is perfect in size for small aquariums. It is compact and would fit in any shape, landscape or portrait, aquarium design. This heater was also obviously designed with aquarium hobbyists in mind because you can change the temperature without having to get your hands wet or without having to take the heater out of the aquarium! This is a huge convenience and I can't believe I ever had a heater that did it any other way. I also love that the heater actively shows when its turned on and when it is heating up. New heaters do not do this these days and you have to manually check to make sure that the water is being heated. I would recommend this heater to anyone.
