Best Portable Player We've Ever Owned
We purchased this item for two reasons: (a) Twice yearly we take road trips in excess of 8 hours, and a portable DVD player helps keep our child distracted for part of the journey and (b) my wife and I don't have a television in our bedroom; periodically, my wife will have bouts of insomnia and she'll use our portable DVD player to keep her occupied until she can finally drift off. Over the last decade, we've owned several different models of portable DVD player. This was our first portable Blu Ray player. When this one dies, we'll probably buy it again. I was extremely impressed with this product - quite literally from the moment I opened the box. The way the unit was packed was almost comical. It was completely encased in bubble wrap. When we finally got it started, it passed the two major tests my wife and I have for portable players: It had a really fast load time - 30 seconds and we were seeing the FBI warning - and the picture was incredible. I know we shouldn't be surprised that a Blu Ray player would produce such a crisp image, but c'mon! It's a portable player! Seriously, the picture was really nice. I will acknowledge that there is a high-frequency 'whirling' sound produced by this machine (others have commented on it here). If you've ever owned a portable player before (and as I mentioned, we've had several), then you'll know that no portable player is silent. The reason I give this five stars is because for all the noise, this is THE QUIETEST unit we've ever owned. To clarify: It DOES make noise, but we felt it's barely noticeable and if you buy any portable DVD player, you are GOING to get noise. The noise is quiet enough that you can't hear it in the car. If you're putting it on in your bedroom, you'll notice it. Once the movie starts, you won't. A few more notes: We laughed ourselves silly over the remote control - it is unnecessarily complicated. I'm not going to mark this unit down because of it only because it's a remote control. It does what it needs to do. The only problem my wife has faced is that the buttons that are on the unit to control the player are flush under the screen (as seen in the picture). This looks really slick, but if it's dark and you're trying to start a movie or navigate the main menu, you can't really feel your way to the button you need. In the final analysis: This is a solid, portable Blu Ray player that looks sharp and does exactly as advertised. I'd highly recommend it.

portable blu-ray / mkv / media player!
Portable mkv/blu-ray player! I am on an eternal quest for the perfect portable blu-ray/media/mkv player with a screen. This is the closest I've ever come to the goal but still not quite there. Screen: 1024x600 as far as I can tell but there is nothing in writing anywhere I can find to prove it. A much better resolution than 800x480 - but it still doesn't cut it. - Why have a blu ray player if you attach a screen that's anything less than 1280x720?! That said, it has decent viewing angles - not IPS - but better than most portable screens. Mine has a 2 dead pixels(or are they stuck? I will be trying the Disney wow disc pixel flipper to see if I can cure it). It allows sharpness, hue, contrast and brightness adjustment but nothing looked better than just leaving everything at its default. As you figured out from the photos the screen can be rotated and the entire thing can held like a tablet, the placement of the touch sensitive buttons make using it like a tablet ideal. I was very disappointed that you cannot fully control aspect ratio. It defaults at '16:9 full' but the '16:9 normal' mode seems to accommodate widescreen mkv files more accurately(more on this later). Controls/interface: This I found impressive: On the plastic frame under the screen lies the navigation /control buttons which are not physical buttons at all - but touch sensitive . I prefer this to physical buttons mainly because it's one less thing that can break or let in dust/water. Sadly there is some serious lag while navigating through folders when using the media player function. -Includes a thin little remote with lots of buttons. Must be looked at while using. The buttons are the same shape and size and equally spaced apart. You couldn't memorize it by feel to use in the dark. -No indication of battery life! Is it fully charged? Is it almost dead? I have no idea. Inputs/outputs: -All these players should have dual headphone jacks. This sadly only has one. - It has av input and av out through the use of an included 1/8th jack to red, yellow, white composite(rca) cables. - Full sizeHDMI out(nice) . -I hooked a ntfs 1tb portable hard drive to the usb port and it had no problem reading and powering the drive. -It has a rj45 lan port in the back. -It can only be charged with the provided wall plug. -sliding power button next the power port... it canNOT be powered on or off with the remote. Media player: -It can see ntfs and fat32 drives up to 1tb, I haven't tried any other formats or larger drives yet. - plays everything I throw at it regardless of resolution or format. - some 2.35:1 mkv files will not play in their proper aspect ratio and there doesn't seem to be a damn thing you can do about it. I haven't been able to figure out why some 2.35:1 files play properly and some don't. But a good media player should be able to deal with it. This one can't. - Sadly, navigation through folders and files can be painfully slow whether those files are on a hard drive or data disc it doesn't seem to matter. -It can see chapters in mkv files which is great and not as common as it should be. - I haven't tried hooking it to the Internet, but I don't see any streaming apps so I assume it can only be used for bdlive or firmware updates(?). NO wifi. Build quality: What you would expect for the price. Not too cheap but doesn't feel like it could withstand a 30 inch drop to a hard floor either. The hinge on the screen seems sturdy enough. The disc door and open button seems a little chintzy. Only time will tell how sturdy everything truly is. I'm currently devising a way to attach this to the backside of my 21" 1080p ips HDMI monitor so as to have a quasi portable hidef media player that can be used by 2 people while in a hotel or relatives house while on road trips. Yes, that sounds goofy, but a 21 inch 1080p monitor 18 inches from your face is the equivalent of being in a movie theater :)

Best portable Blu-ray player on the market
Best portable DVD player portable Blu-ray player CD player and all the above you cannot get any better than this it is cheap it's well-made and is very good quality I had a total of three DVD players within a year they are broke this one I just got it and it already is better than all them plus that plays Blu-rays the volume with on the player is the best I ever had all the DVD players that I've had only went up to 30 this one goes up to 100 so yeah better the only bad thing about the player is the carrying case the carrying case is too small the DVD player is a lot more bigger than it says I think because it would not even fit in the bag but bags are easy to find

Very Nice Portable Unit
Since we've converted some of our movie collection to Blu-ray discs, we needed a portable player that would play both, Blu-ray and regular DVDs. This unit worked great for us! The remote control is a little overwhelming, but I was able to easily connect this player to the hotel's HDMI Port and catch up on Game Of Thrones while on vacation. :) I even watched a movie on the airplane with it. The accompanying case allows you to carry the player and watch movies without removing the player from the case. The case even has zippers on the sides so you can access the power switch/access ports--again, without having to remove the player. The case is NOT padded, however. Not an issue for me, but just so you know. Shipping was fast and the item arrived as described.
