Buy it. It works. Battery has lasted more than a year.
Gives steady readings that make sense. I don't have any other equipment to verify it's readings.

Range and OL error questions answered below.
I use this for rough estimates of lighting on my plant stands for my orchids that I grow under fluorescent lights. I gave it 4 stars, taking into account the price and the fact I only need a ballpark measurement. I hope this review answers questions the manual doesn’t address. The OL error message means the light intesity you are trying to measure is out of the measurement range. This is why the unit defaults to auto (range) upon startup. For example, if you are trying to measure a light intensity of 18,000 fc, but your range is set to 2000 (or 200) you will get “OL” on the display. But on “auto” the unit is smart enough to change your range to 20,000. So if you are needing ballpark measurements like me, leave the range setting on “auto”.The reason range matters is because the device will be more accurate in the smallest usable range. For example, if you are measuring a light intensity of 150 fc, the measurement is more accurate if you are using the range that is 200 than if you are using the 2,000 or 20,000 range.I took off a star for ease of use because of the bare-bones instructions. It would have taken them 10 minutes to type up what I just did.

It's been great for having an objective measurement to decide where to ...
Seems accurate - I checked against my phone's light meter app, and while the numbers I got were different, they were consistently different. It's been great for having an objective measurement to decide where to put houseplants. Like every other reviewer, I like that it has a cover for the sensor dome, but I wish it was tethered to the meter itself so I don't have an extra piece of plastic to lose. I'm very happy with this purchase, and that small gripe would not prevent me from purchasing again or recommending to other houseplant enthusiasts.

This meter is very easy to use and seems reliable
This meter is very easy to use and seems reliable. You have to be careful that the white meter sensor is facing directly up if you are attempting to get light measurements from above. We ordered several of these to use in an Ecology course, and our students didn't have any trouble. One of the units came with a malfunctioning screen, but the seller Leaton Direct was extremely prompt and helpful in swapping it out for a new one. I agree with the other reviews about this being a much more affordable option than other.

No English manual
I honestly don't even know how to use this thing. The manual wasn't in English, and the FAQs here online do not really explain everything I need to know. So this may work fine, or who knows? It's giving me a reading but I have no idea what it means or if I'm holding it properly or anything. So far, I wouldn't recommend this but if I figure out how it works, then maybe I would.
