Really impressed with how well this device from 2017 stands up in 2025.
I wanted to get an older Intel Mac for the sake of hauling it around and doing some things to it that are “off label” so to speak. I had low expectations, but for under $200, I figured, worst-case, I’d throw some flavor of Linux on it and use it as a secondary device. While it isn’t as fast as my M3 MacBook Air that I use mostly at home, it is incredibly serviceable. It is refurbished, mine came with a brand new battery and for this particular device the battery life is really great, even under a bit of load it’s 4+ hours, and I’m a bit of a heavy user so you may get more. Upgradeable (just ordered a larger SSD for it because I am using it so much that I’m investing in more storage, the specialized drive for it runs around $60 or you can get the NVMe SSD of your choice with an adapter if you have a spare lying around you want to use.) OpenCore will get you to Sequoia and I’ve heard some people are able to run Tahoe Beta. Without modification though it runs Sonoma which for most people will do just fine. You’re not getting the greatest screen with an 8 year old computer but the screen actually looks really good. The i5 Processor and 8 GB of RAM are not powerhouses these days but if you have a $200 budget and have to choose between this and one of those new budget laptops with a Celeron or N95/100/etc. this will do much better! Just remember, this is an 8 year old device as far as the tech. It does great. But if you’re expecting an experience similar to the new M-series processors, you won’t get it. I would suggest looking into a refurbished Air with an M1 if you want that experience. That said, it packs a lot more punch than I thought it would and I am currently using it as my out of the house daily driver. It does get a little warm under load but not hot. If you’re just web browsing, YouTubing, doing school or office work, maybe some very basic photo or video editing, this machine will do just fine. For people with a little less tech experience, I would suggest making sure you save files to the cloud or a USB drive (also has an SD card slot if you want to go that route.) This does NOT have USB-C and Thunderbolt 2 does not natively connect to current Thunderbolt/USB-C. There are adapters for that on Amazon if you need it for any reason. With the right cable that port can also be used to connect to an external monitor if you need it. OH. And! Keyboard and Apple Logo are both backlit. I believe this was the last MacBook Air with a backlit Apple Logo. If nothing else that increases its “cool factor.” Bigger bezels than new devices, but honestly, they don’t bother me and I think most people won’t find them excessive. I would say this laptop is for: Students Children who you want to give a first computer to where you don’t need them to have the latest and the greatest. People who have been using Windows and want to try a Mac but don’t want to commit big money to the ecosystem yet People who have a Chromebook budget but don’t want a crappy underpowered machine that is effectively a web browser with mobile apps and don’t know how to use the Linux environment People who are interested in the Hackintosh community but would rather have the real thing. People looking at those sub-$300 computers with EMMC memory and 4 GB of RAM and underpowered processors Hope that this helps people who are thinking about this computer but are on the fence. It’s truly a great machine. And while Apple has dropped support for Intel, security updates should continue to roll out for a few years in case safety is a concern.

Never let a few bad reviews prevent you from your purchase.. everyone finna have different luck
Bought this for 10 year old and it works perfectly fine... I was a bit skeptical about purchasing because most the reviews weren't good but after getting it and setting it up my kid had no problem.. the battery percent is good 👍 id suggest those getting this for kids her age who is doing research or office workers or in university.. this would work well plus the price is cost affordable

A mess
I ordered one and the entire two bottom rows of keys stuck, would click like there was sand under the keyboard, or wouldn’t pop back up so my sentence looked like this “Mmmmmmmmy nnnnew laptop Is unnnnnnnnusabbble” So I reached out to Amazon support who processed a replacement. Unfortunately the replacement was also unusable because the charging port would not hold the charger in it. So unless I wanted to sit there and hold the charger for 2 hours to charge it I had to return that one too. So I reached out to support again and processed that return. I ordered a third one hoping the third time would be the charm but alas, it was not. This one has a battery life of about 18 minutes from full charge until it’s dead. I understand these are refurbished but I have some major concerns about quality control at this point as it doesn’t seem like random bad luck that I’d get 3 laptops with major problems. Also adding that these are listed in excellent condition however there are also significant cosmetic issues as well. Scratches, deep dents, bent corners. Not something I’d look at and say “yeah this is in excellent condition”. I hope the seller takes more care in refurbishing these in the future because it feels like they are just out here taking in a computer, restoring it to factory settings and listing it for sale. No way they could do even a cursory check of these and not notice 20 sticky keys or the inability to charge a computer. This process has taken me about 3 weeks from placing my first order and has been a headache all around. I wouldn’t recommend these unless you are fully aware that you’ll need to dedicate time and money to making the computer you receive able to be used.

its a very solid 8/10
FOR $250 this is the bargain you cannot pass up!!!! Here's the meat and potatoes of it ... The Macbook Air which i purchased has the Apple quality i have gotten to know and love over the past 20 years of being an Apple Product User as the devices became more compact over the last 15 of those 20 Years i have purchased iMacs (2006, 2009, 2 iPhones ( 4,5,6,7,10, 11Pro, 14 Pro, 16 Pro) the Macbook ( yes the white one i started buying those when they came out around 2006/2007) and the Macbook Pro ( 2008-2017) and i have had the iPod Shuffle, iPod Touch ( 2011,2012, 2013, 2014) so i know the quality that these devices posssess as i am " not new to this" i just love love love the Apple Products and alll of the diffrent computers and phones they have at first they kind of are basic but as the years go by they evolve now onto the particular review of this product which is a 2017 13-Inch Macbook Air- it is refurbished and it was about 7 years old when i got it The Pros are that i updated it to the MacOSx from 2021 which is i believe the last Mac OSx it can be updated to for this model and it works great - the MAcbook is a CORE i5 Model but to tell you the truth when i use a MAc Computer they are innately more faster anyways so i dont get too cuaught up in buying the fanciest most spec'd out models i usually opt for teh "mid-range" however this time my MacBook Pro from 2017 went out on me and i just needed something since i travel a lot i value portable and compact devices PLUS I WANTED SOMETHING THAT STILL HAD THE USB 2.0/ 3.0 PORTS (non USB C) AND HAD A HEADPHONE JACK ( I THINK ITS DUMB TO HAVE A COMPUTER WITHOUT A HEADPHONE JACK) so i got this and do not regret it LET ME TELL YOU THIS IS MY FiRST MACBOOK AIR - I REMEMBER THINKING " CAN I REALLY GO FROM A MACBOOK PRO TO AN AIR- DONT THE AIR MODELS HAVE LESS LIKE SPEED AND STORAGE?" NEEDLESS TO SAY I GOT THIS AND I FELL IN LOVE- ITS LIGHTER AND THINNER - i may never go back to a MacBook Pro again who knows Now the only con i can think of ( besides the DENTS and theres a few of them like is the fact that the computer doesnt have the latest and greatest but thats all-right with me the ALMOST NON-EXISTENT BATTERY on this ( oh the other con) is not the best like i will charge it to 100% and then the computer will shut down at like 48 percent or something i will get maybe like ONE HOUR of BATTERY LIFE on this there have been times when i have gotten six hours out of it THE SPEED Just to put it in persepctive than i use this computer for about five hours each day and turning itn on the time from boot up to login to being on the internet is ONE MINUTE yes exactly SIXTY SECONDS the Core i5 Processor is absolutely a beast this thing is just of the charts in terms of its amazing capability - i can watch movies and there is no lag when it comes to streaming , stream songs and just really ZOOM THROUGH EVERYTHING LIGHTNING FAST PORTABILITY THIS PARTICULAR MACBOOK AIR IS LIGHTWEIGHT- the computer in all fairness does a slight heftiness to it however that is nothign compared to the MacBook Pro the 2017 Version i had which felt to be about 4 Pounds i dont know if it actualy was or not i know this thing feels to be ablout a pound maybe one and a half pounds anyways you can throw this beast into your backpack without it weighing you down SD CARD READER YES THIS COMPUTER ( MACBOOK AIR 2017) has a SD CARD READER which is good for a full-size SD Card- the SD Card is very handy for digital cameras - in fact i have a basic yet affordable KODAK EASYSHARE from 2011 which still works perfectly and the SD Card REader on this device makes for an excellent comapnion to that - the data in and output on here is just BLAZING FAST READ/ WRITE there's nothing like it and if the built in SD Reader doesnt work then i have several USB Card Readers which do the trick Heat the HEAT LEVEL on this laptop is moderate with for the most part the computer doesnt overheat however during times of charging or heavy use ( running more than a applications at once) i havent felt this thing get hot and a remedy to this would be to close a couple apps and then after whcih it works fine with no further heat level issues SOUND QUALITY the MacBook Air 2017 COre i5 Model that i have here has interanl speakers that when i compare it to my iMac ( my 2009 which is going strong - my kids seem to like it and havent complained) then the sound quality of these internal speakers is sloightly lower- i feel like the speakers on this device are " on the bottom" whereas the iMac the speakers are on the backside closer to where the USB Ports- overall this in terms of the speakers and the quality you ghet from the speakers on this thing is 9/10 DRUABILITy and overall impressions THE MacBook aIr is nowadays the "entry level"" Mac- really the Mac MINI is but the MacBook AIr is an entry-level laptop however it is exceeding that "entry-;level' the computer is fast, light, packable and the fact that it a 13.3 Display compared to the 11.6 Inch Models that were around during the 2014 Year then this is a wider palm rest area which makes way fro more comfortable computing especailly when typing long manuscripts, or even typing in general. The Backlit Keyboard adds that nice touch to the Apparatus and also is vbery handy at nught however it should be noted that having the Backlit Keyboard, utilizing it then you are consuming more battery so try to only use the backlit keyboard if you are in a darkened space. The Webcam on here is very nicely functional and is great for Zoom Meetings or Facetime calls with the Internal Microphone proving to be very rich and the other person can hear you very well. the charge tike for this device is between one to tow houras with the standby time being anywhere from8 Hiurs to 100 Hours just make sure before you put the computer to sleep to TURN OFF WI-FI and Bluetooth as well as closeout any applications you are not using via Activity Monitor. in addition to this as a ruke of thumb- turning down the brightness on your devices can extend battery life greatly

Great Buy For The Money!
I have no complaints! (For now) For less than $200, I’d say this computer was a good buy. Mines came as described, excellent condition, was packaged securely and nicely. I have not one scratch or dent on mine. I used ChatGPT to give me a check list of things to check for on a refurbished computer. This laptop passed all tests, the only thing I’d say is that when I checked the battery health, there is a message saying service battery, I will keep my eye out on that, but so far, no issues with the battery and it has a great battery life. This laptop did not come with iMovie, and since it’s older, I had a hard time finding an iMovie that would be compatible for download, but ChatGPT helped me with that too. The key board works perfectly, I checked every key. So for now, I recommend purchasing, but everyone will have a different experience.

a great deal 💋
I got an “acceptable” version and it’s amazing so far! I’ve just had it 1 day but I love it. It’s clean, sleek, all the buttons work and I’ve had no issues connecting iCloud. Definitely a great buy for $100!!!

Extremely disappointed
This purchase was extremely disappointing from start to finish. I paid an additional $29–$35 for overnight shipping and ordered this computer on December 23rd specifically for Christmas delivery, yet it did not arrive until December 31st. Overnight shipping was never honored, and I have received no refund or explanation for that charge. When the computer finally arrived, it turned out to be unusable. During the macOS update process, the system displays an error stating that the macOS installer is damaged and cannot be used. This was intended to be a gift, and it could not be used out of the box. This issue strongly suggests the computer was improperly prepared or refurbished, as a functioning Mac should never ship with a corrupted operating system installer. I contacted the seller multiple times regarding both the defective computer and the shipping charges, but only received automated bot responses and no real assistance. Because the product is not usable as advertised, I am forced to return it. Between the delayed delivery, additional shipping fees, lack of seller communication, and receiving a computer that does not function properly, this experience was extremely frustrating. The one star review is because the computer itself seemed to be in mint condition. No scratches no dings. It looked really good. However I would not recommend purchasing from this seller.
