Breaking the Chains

This album is OK but its certainly not comparable to the 3 subsequent releases. Production, songwriting, tone,,, Don Dokken hadn't even found his tru voice yet for the most part. The two essential songs IMO are the title track and Paris is Burning. Other than that you can honestly skip this one and start with Tooth and Nail. If you like Tooth and Nail go to Under Lock and Key then proceed to Back for the Attack. At that point I definiteoy recommend the Don Dokken solo release Up from the Ashes. If you are a completest definitely get the Beast from the East double live album... All of that being said if you are going to skip one make it this one. Whatever you do with Dokken go for these Rock Candy remasters. The original CDs just don't cut it

A strong release from a young talented band. This album is start to finish straight up hard rock and roll, and sports not one "filler" song. This album is all hard rock with no gimmicks to spice it up like synthesizers, voice overs, etc.The album starts strong with the hit song, "Breaking the Chains," and ends with another hit song, "Paris is Burning." What I love about Paris is it is a live song, and starts with over a minute long guitar solo by George Lynch. A very memorable, and soaring solo that is on par with Eddie Van Halen.Most bands work their entire life perfecting their first album, while they wait on a record deal. After that, it's all about making records as soon as possible, and getting back out on the road. Hopefully, they can manage a couple hit songs. This album is better then most beginner albums because of no filler songs, and four talented musicians that make it great. Don Dokken is a way above average singer, with a wide vocal range. George Lynch is an amazing guitar player along the likes of Eddie Van Halen greatness. Juan Croucier was an above average bass player, and could really rock. Mick Brown was an above average drummer who could really throw down on the drumset also. So, you put these hungry, young men together, and greatness is bound to happen. Yep, it happened here. Two thumbs way, way up!Only thing this album lacked was superior production, but the album still shines. If you buy the remastered version, the sound is even crisper.

Dokken released their major label debut album in 1983. Dokken played a very radio friendly style of hard rock that was absolutely made for MTV. These guys just happened to do it better than most.The first thing to notice about this record is that, it's a little more raw than their later releases. That doesn't mean it's worse, just not as polished. The songs on here are still melodic and catchy, and the group is terrific as always. This really does come off as a debut album, which some may not like, but for my money, this is one of the better debuts of the decade. I really enjoyed just about every song on here, and i'm sure most other fans would be the same way,Dokken are really one of the genres best. To have no Dokken in your collection is a crime, and should be punishable by law. I'd suggest their "Back For The Attack" album to start with, but this record is good as well.

The first.Dokken album. Is the best , off all. The Dokken whole collection it really rocks. I remember in the early 80s. When it first appeared. On MTV. I love them. And I ran to the record store. And purchase this cassette. Quickly. I couldn't wait till he came on CD. Thanks again Amazon. For keeping that in stock. For people like me that love metal and rock. Received order by date stated.Ordered new items to replace originals we had in cassette version. However, when I received the package, the mailing envelope was torn and each CD (3 total) case was cracked . Luckily the CDs themselves were not damaged.

1983 erschien das Debütalbum der amerikanischen HeavyRock Band Dokken.In Europa schon 1981 veröffentlicht, wurde die Platte leicht verändert 2 Jahre später in den USA veröffentlicht.Die allererste Produktion des Produzenten Michael Wagener der ja später zum Produzentenpapst wurde.Die Platte startet mit dem Titeltrack welcher durch seinen Ohrwurmrefrain auftrumpft.Der erste "Hit" dieser Band dem dann noch zahlreiche folgen sollten.In the Middle ist eine Ballade die auch ganz gut in's Ohr geht mit feinem Gitarrensolo.Lied Nummer 3 Felony ein sperriger Song mit teilweise Sprechgesang mit hartem Rythmus und Doublebass,find ich gut die Nummer.I can't see you ist dann eher etwas unspektakulär ganz nett aber nicht's besonderes.Live to Rock ist dann schon ganz anderer Natur flott mit Doublebass und geilem Solo.Einer der besten Songs auf der Platte.Dann folgt das etwas schnellere Nightrider im Doublebassrythmus und prägnanten Riff auch sehr gut der Song.Seven Thunders verhält sich wie I can't see you kann man hören muss man aber nicht.Dann folgt mit Young Girls ein Midtempostampfer mit Weltklasseriff (das Mötley Crüe später für ihr Looks that Kill klauten) und gutem Refrain.Derr Text ist nicht so pralle aber Who Cares die Nummer rockt!Stick to your Guns ist auch Midtempo mit Druck im Rythmus find ich auch gut die Nummer!Rausschmeisser dann eine Livenummer namentlich Paris is Burning mit Wahnsinnsgitarreneinlagen des guten George Lynch, sehr schneller Song und sehr einprägsam.Gehört heute immer noch zum Liverepertoire der Band.Was mir so gut an der Platte gefällt ist die vornehmende Härte!Wirklich sehr harter Rythmus der gespielt wird.Die nachfolgenden Platten der Band waren da schon etwas mainstreamiger was nicht heissen soll das sie schlechter waren.Ganz im Gegenteil.Mit 7 wirklich guten Nummern ist es eine sehr gute Heayrockplatte die bereits alles besitzt was diese Band ausmacht:Klasse Kompositionen,Sehr Melodisch,Harte Rythmusabteilung,Guter markanter Gesang und Weltklasse Gitarrenarbeit!Die Platte hat einfach Charme.Besonders die Rock Candy Version die remastert wurde ist klasse!Absolute Kaufempfehlung!!!

Rock Candy nos presenta una gran edición del primer trabajo oficial de Dokken, que aunque no sea de los mejores, a mí me gusta y creo que está al nivel del primer álbum de Bon Jovi (Breacking The Chains = Runaway). La remasterización es satisfactoria y el diseño gráfico y el contenido del librillo también; muchas fotos y abundante texto. La única pega que le pongo es la ausencia de temas extra y/o en vivo, aunque entiendo que haya poco material de esa época (1983).

dokken sind leider (heul) eine viel zu sehr unterschätzte rockband, deren potenzial doch an manchen stellen größer ist, als das der viel zu hochgelobten guns`n`roses, die ich zwar auch mag, aber dokken und die ebensounterschätzten ratt und cinderella stehen doch (für mich) an höherer stelle.in diesem ersten album der band konnte vor allem george lynch zwar noch nichtseine große gitarristische leistung zeigen (außer bei "paris is burning"),dennoch überzeugt natürlich don dokken`s großartige stimme und die melodischen songs, die sowieso auf jedem album der band in den 80`ern vorhanden waren. wer auf glam- und normalen heavy rock der 80`er stehtkann getrost zugreifen. dokken sind leider im europäischen raumein unentdeckter schatz, dessen geheimrezept nur die amis und die asiaten wirklichkennen, auch wenn die liveversion von "paris is burnung" in deutschlandaufgenommen wurde, waren sie jedoch nur kurzzeitig ein hell erleuchtenderstern im musikbuisness in deutschland !
