Good Mystery
You can't go wrong with a Georgette Heyer mystery. You do have to be careful in ordering, though, because she also wrote a number of romances. I am a mystery fan, but not a romance fan. She is a contemporary of Agatha Christie. Her mysteries are the best kind of cozies. There is little blood or horror, but lots of good characterization and plotting.

The unfinished clue
I have loved Georgette Heyer's books for over 40 years. Her slang words used by her "less than admirable " characters, always tickle me in her old English stories. This one was fixed in a more modern time, but her characters were still well developed and the twist at the end totally surprised me! I'm usually pretty good at guessing the perpetrator, but I was totally confused. It was great and well thought out, not just plunked in at the end. Excellent mystery!

Good
Georgette Heyer's mysteries have interesting characters and some humor without the total silliness of her Regency Romances. I am not a good judge of how well the mystery is planned, since I tend to get more caught up in the characters, how the dialog is handled and if they stay in character, rather than plot twists. Her dialog was usually clever and moved the story along quite well. It did seem that the most unlikely person turned out to be the villain most of the time, but she kept adding some fresh concepts to the stories and I just wish she had written more mysteries and less romance novels.

Never a disappointment.
For many years G. Heyer has Benn my primary refuge. When I find myself in an uncomfortable human condition, frightened, sad, angered or just feeling off, it is to her books I go. Regency or mystery, they float you along into a totally different place. Sit back with a cup of tea or a glass of wine and enjoy the trip.

Enjoyable!
It was complicated with many worthy suspects and a bit romantic. I couldn’t put it down. I read it twice in two days!Make that 4 in one week.By far her best mystery!

Timeless story
A familiar tale. Really nasty man is murdered and there are enough suspects with compelling reasons to do the deed that Scotland Yard is called in to help the local constabulary. As the story unfolds each chapter has the reader thinking the case is solved. It really is only apparent until the last chapter, when you figure it out just before it is revealed. Thoroughly enjoyed.

Meh
If you love Georgette Heyer’s historical romance novels, you will be sadly disappointed with this murder mystery. She is my all-time favorite hr writer, so the lack of likable characters and the awkward, dull sections on time and place of suspects do not compare to either Heyer’s hr books OR Agatha Christie’s mysteries. Save your money.

Frothy and Fun
I read this while I was sick with a fever, and it was absolutely perfect for that. Very amusing and witty, easy to follow while fever-riden, easy to put down and pick up, with a bouyant tone, very heartening for someone feeling ill. Yes, it does have the social snobbery characteristic of the time and place, but I managed to be merely amused by that. It is my favorite of the Heyer mysteries, and I'm sure I'll be re-reading it, especially if I'm not feeling well and need something light and effervescent as a pick-me-up. I'm only sorry that this is Heyer's only mystery with Inspector Harding as the investigator. I very much enjoyed his interactions with the other characters, particularly with his Sergeant.

Charming period crime romance
An elegant thriller from Georgette Heyer - entertaining, romantic and intriguing. There’s a whole shoal of red herrings swimming merrily round until the very final pages!Heyer depicts a classic tense aristocratic country weekend house party, hosted by a super dysfunctional family, before throwing a violent murder into the mix, and the sparks duly fly. Meanwhile, our classic Georgette Heyer Heroine proves irresistible to the rather gentlemanly Scotland Yard Inspector who is summoned to sort out the chaos.Classic Heyer. If you like Downton Abbey period drama and Agatha Christie crime, you’ll love this.

Excellent
Many people don't know that Georgette Heyer wrote detective novels, but they are, to my mind, better than Agatha Christie any day. I own them all as printed works but happily snapped them up as talking books so I can listen whilst I'm working/driving etc.,.

The Unfinished Clue
General Sir Arthur Billington-Smith is stabbed to death in his study during a house party. He has humiliated his wife in front of his guests, disinherited his only son and upset several of his guests as well as refusing to help his nephew financially. It comes as no surprise then when someone snaps and stabs him.Inspector Harding, from Scotland Yard, has to work his way through a great many secrets and lies before he works out the truth of the case and reveals the murderer. As ever Heyer describes the tensions and relationships between the guests and relatives in masterly fashion and the reader can laugh at the conversation and attitudes of Lola - the Mexican dancer and Geoffrey's unwelcome fiancée and the reason why his father has disinherited him. The treatment of the victim's somewhat ineffectual wife will arouse the reader's sympathy as well as irritation because she doesn't stand up for herself.I liked Fay's sister Dinah and Inspector Harding himself. It's a pity Heyer didn't write any more books featuring Harding. I think Georgette Heyer's crime novels are every bit as good as those of her more illustrious contemporaries, Agatha Christie and Dorothy L Sayers. I recommend it to anyone who likes Golden Age crime fiction.

Georgette Heyer's mystery!
This is a great mystery story set in the 1930's which is when it was written. Didn't guess who-dun-it. Recommended as a nice light read

Another entertaining puzzle
Georgette Heyer was always able to intrigue with a list of possible murderers right to the final chapter. Added with gentle humour and romance these books are ideal for those with an interest in this genre.
