A must. This book reveals the true meaning of friendship through the eyes and hearts of children.

This is a wonderful young girl's book which addresses the sensitive issue of racial prejudice in the South. I would feel comfortable in giving this as a give to any young girl.

Things like "redneck cracker" are rampant in this book
This book is extremely racist against white people. Things like "redneck cracker" are rampant in this book. Do not allow your children to read it. Very racist and does NOT help "bridge a cultural divide". Only makes it worse and spreads even more white guilt. Not appropriate for children!
