Quality shave soap with a great scent and a great shave, but it's not for vegans or dirt haters.
First off, if you're vegan, find another product. This is at least partially rendered from animal fat.I spent some time pondering whether or not to review this product, then wondered how to rate and review it. I debated on how much I actually liked it based on smell, performance, and value. Then I finally decided to just rate it on its own merits and the manufacturer's claims.Second, the smell...If you dislike or are offended by the smell of "dirt", look elsewhere. You see the candles and air fresheners with scent names like "deep woods", "summer meadow", "waterfall", "ocean breeze", "midnight rain", or any other woods, forest, meadow, or water related scent. They all smell nearly the same, and are a little bit perfumey, but not normally overpowering and offensive, but pleasant.I like those, and that is what I was expecting. But this smells nothing like those. The scent is exactly as advertised; earth, rain, pine, and moss. All mashed and blended together just like when you go for a walk in the forest after a rainstorm. I'd love to see candles and air fresheners that smell like this. I'd buy them in a heartbeat."Summer Storm" smells just like a walk in the woods after a good rain. Either you'll love it, if you like the forest and it's scents; or hate it if you prefer the smells of the city and have never been anywhere else.First impression of the scent after opening the container and taking a whiff was absolutely, "WOW, I love it!" Then, after a couple of shaves, I began to wonder about my choice. After a while, the scent kind of just "grew" on me. I really love the scent, and find it refreshing, clean, natural, and very earthy.I have heard that particular scent, "petrichor", is difficult to replicate, they nailed it. When I'm done shaving, I occasionally squeeze the excess soap from my shave brush, and mix it with my body wash in my shower puff.Between the tallow base, and the extracts and oils, the shave soap is very slick, builds lather easily, goes on readily, and lubricates well.My shaves have never been more comfortable, and my skin has never been less irritated. Only once, when I had an old blade, and my razor was not closed all the way, did I experience a rough, uncomfortable shave, my fault, not the soap. After shaving, the oils tend to want to stay on your skin and leave your skin feeling a little slippery. However, this easily rinses away with water and a little rub, or a wet washcloth. As for the claim of "a hundred shaves"; well, I must be doing something wrong.I received my first puck July 7, 2019. 13 weeks ago as of composing this review on October, 9, 2019.I don't shave daily. Normally only once or maybe twice a week. Assuming even as much three times a week, that would be 39 shaves, less than half of the advertised 100. My first puck is nearly gone.I assume it's because the soap is so soft, I really try to load the brush, and then I try to rinse my brush completely clean after each shave. But I'm otherwise pleased well enough with the price, quality, and scent, that it was worth it to me to reorder the exact same product.Unless something else comes along that tickles my fancy better, I'll likely stay with this product for quite a while.

Great shave soap that smells nothing like a thunderstorm.
I really like this soap. Mostly. It lathers and shaves GREAT. And it's lasting a good long time, too. Smells good, but that's where the missing star went. More on that in a bit.Comes packaged with a kind of cheesy graphic on the front. (Or, at least, mine did. Looks like they may have changed that up a bit since I bought mine a few months ago.) The soap itself looked strange, full of little holes where, I assume, bubbles were when it was poured in. Had an almost soft-serve point in the middle. But, all that has worn away, and it's now a nice, smooth, off-white colored puck just sitting there waiting for the next shave.I keep the lid off pretty much all the time, as I don't want any residual water to just pool and sit on the soap after use. Makes the bathroom smell pretty good. And like I said above, the lather and shave from this stuff is great. Easily the best lather I've ever had. Not that I'm super well-versed in all the different soaps out there, but prior to this, Mitchell's Woolfat was my favorite. It just doesn't hold a candle as far as lather quality goes. FWIW, I'm a gather-in-the-bowl, lather-on-the-face shaver. Used in the shower, it never disappoints. Now, about the smell, and why I subtracted a star from this. If you've read other reviews, which I assume you have, you'll have read all sorts of praise over the 'petrichor', 'ozone', etc. smells evident from this soap. When I bought this, I was definitely stoked to have my face smelling (briefly) of an actual summer storm, with wet dirt, cut grass, and lingering ozone. I didn't know if it would smell good, but I thought it would be pretty darn cool to have that smell great me every morning. Novel, at least. What I actually got smells nothing like petrichor, ozone, grass, or anything else of that type. It smells good, don't get me wrong. And, honestly, if it *did* smell as they say it would, I probably would have tired of it after not too long, and would have had to get something else to refresh the ol' olfactory receptors. What this does smell like is a good cologne, semi sweet-smelling, and not overpowering. (At least, not anymore. I don't really remember if it was stronger/more prevalent when I first got the soap.) It's good, but not what it claims in the description. At least, not to me.

Great Soap
I have been eyeballing this soap for a while and decided to finally give it a try.So the scent.....I grew up in Wisconsin, this does not smell like a summer storm at least not where im from. I was hoping for more rain smell and less pine. However its still a very nice good smelling scent. Im very happy that it doesnt smell like cheap cologne. Its a very natural earthy smell and i liked it.As for the soap, I got this to lather on my face with my hand, no brush (I just moved, think my brush got tossed on accident and didnt feel like waiting til i got a new one) . anyway the soap whips up really well, and is super slick. I got an extremely great shave with two passes. And it left my skin very smooth and didnt completely dry out my skin like many shave soaps do on me. I am very impressed with this soap exp for the price. Ive had soaps that i paid a lot more money for, and were garbage. Im looking forward to trying their other products.

PNW deep forest in a soap
The smell of this shave soap smells 100% like an old forest in the PNW. A forest in which a lazy creek slowly winds through, almost unseen due to the sword ferns covering the majority. This is a place where the sunlight rarely reaches the damp floor. Nobody knows the depth of the pine needles covering the ground, but with every step you thank Mother Nature for the slight impact on your ever aging joints. There is moss growing on just about every porous surface available, retaining as much moisture as possible for the heat that will surely come.
