Paradise Lost.....and Found Again
I first discovered Lake Jocassee many years ago as a venue for our camping trips. As soon as I heard the story of the flooding of Jocassee Valley, I was drawn to the place. It is an amazingly beautiful lake - I can't imagine a more beautiful place on earth - but it was born at the cost of a whole way of life for those who grew up in the Valley. Debbie's book, "Whipoorwill Farewell: Jocassee Remembered" brought to life the anguish and heartbreak of those who had to leave their generations-old homesteads and watch their beloved Valley fill with flood waters. This new book not only shows the poignant sadness of sacrificing one form of incredible beauty for another, but it also shows what an incredible engineering feat the construction of the dam itself was. Anyone who has ever visited - and loved- this incredible little corner of South Carolina needs to read this book.

How a beautiful little valley turned into one of the most beautiful manmade lakes in SC
Loved this book! Beautiful story and photos showing how a beautiful little valley turned into one of the most beautiful lakes in SC. Bittersweet for so much to have been lost (homes, Camp Jocassee lodge, graves...) in order for man to enjoy a still beautiful place in which new memories will be made. ‘to whom much is given, much will be required’ (Luke 12:48)Audi Dodgens

This was a Christmas gift for my Dad. He loves it. He couldn't put it down. Lake Jocassee is close to home and holds many wonderful memories for our family.

Informative Book
A very nice hardback book with lots of information and photos of the area before it became a lake. Very interesting and I know my husband will love it.
