What is the benefit of the 230 watt version over 120 watt version?

230 watt charges a bit faster. Good for more high powered laptops. The 120 is really the better choice for prolonging battery life. I believe it should be your go to for a permenent office desk. Its slower charging rate works great for daily desk use and will be a better fit for battery life.

Does it have a power button or do I have to power on from the laptop with the lid open?

The top of the cube is your power button. Very sensitive and just press the top lightly to start. You don’t need to use the laptop button. Also you should not put anything on top of it. It is your power action surface.

Can I connect 3 monitors to this doc? 2 via displayport and 1 via thunderbolt 3? I have Macbook 2017?

I have MacBook Pro 2017. I tried 2 DP cables connecting from this Dock to 2 monitors. The mirror issue cannot be resolved. So I use one DP for one monitor and one Thunderbolt 3 (from mac) to the other monitor.
