Thanks for asking. The difference is the .R in the part #, which stands for revised/revision. Intel released the new revised model on September 1, 2014 in order to increase compatibility with existing systems.

Yes it should. However, HP is notorious for having a whitelist built into their BIOS. BIOS is the basic in/out system, essentially the most basic simple foundation(firmware) that a computer operates with. HP sometimes builds this whitelist into their BIOS to detect and block aftermarket peripherals like WiFi cards that aren't sold by them. They claim all sorts of reasons like FCC certification and what not but the reason truly is that: If you want a laptop with a faster WiFi card, HP would like you to buy a whole new laptop! So, with that let's Google your model number and see what happens!So I do not know what type of Processor you have but your Laptop does indeed have a Whitelist for WiFi or WLAN cards. You request a Bios mod at a website/ forum called bios-mod. There you post all your info and backup of your BIOS someone will download, modify, and reupload a modded BIOS for you. They will give step by step instructions in the file they give back to you. I just did this last night for my wife's Lenovo laptop that had the same problem. After I flashed the modified BIOS, I popped in the new WiFi card and all was well!!!! Hope this helps...

In theory, yes. However, at least on their laptops, HP has a nasty habit of locking out un-approved WiFi cards by putting a "white list" of allowed cards into the BIOS firmware. On boot-up, any card model not on that list is disabled. I'm not sure if they use this marketing strategy on their all-in-ones.  Note that even if the card does work, you will likely have to uninstall the previous card's WiFi drivers and install both new WiFi and new Bluetooth drivers from Intel.
