Review: Great book!! I love the way it explains things so clearly, Very easy to follow and read. Great addition to my study books. Review: This is a wealth of information for any medical billing and coding student. This book highlighted a lot of information about what to expect that you don't get through the college courses. This book is not going to teach you how to be a medical coder, not that kind of knowledge. Just things you would encounter on the job, basic information on being accredited, and things of that nature. A very good resource to have.

I picked up Medical Billing & Coding For Dummies to get a feel for medical coding before jumping into any training program, and it was exactly what I needed. The book does a great job breaking down the basics of the job, so I knew what to expect in terms of daily tasks and workplace settings. It's easy to understand, with helpful explanations that don’t assume you have prior knowledge. If you're curious about this field and want a clear, straightforward intro before committing to classes, this is a perfect starting point!

Cons: 1) The paper is pretty thin/flimsy. - Highlighting or penciling on one page will leave marks/bleed through to the other side or next page if you press too hard. They also rip pretty easily, so be careful around grabby toddlers or pets who love books. 2) missing cheat on website - in the begining of the book, the author mentions a free cheat sheet available on dummies.com. It is no longer available, which is disappointing. Pros 1) the author is well spoken, easy to understand, and thorough. She gives both billing and coding ample attention individually and weights the pros and cons of both jobs that are very intertwined. 2) the book so a great starting point to help one decide if Medical Coding or Billing or both are a good fit or them and what avenues to go from there - education, certification, work places, benefits and things to be cautious of. A good read for anyone interested in this field.
