Whats the difference in H nocks and s nocks? I want to buy these for my boyfriend and I obviously know nothing about archery.

Dont buy these. The description says that they are S nocks and they send X nocks. the difference is the diameters are different and will not fit if you are meaning to buy nock for  S and you get X

How do they switch on, when the arrow is shot?

There is a little piece that sticks up through the throat of the nock, when shot the string pushes the piece down into the nock and it turns it on. When you want to turn it off, there is an opening on the side that you push the switch back up to turn it off/reset it. I recommend getting the little tool they sell which makes turning the nocks off and also aligning the nocks easier. If you try to turn the nocks on the string to align the fletching like a regular nock they will break on the next shot most likely.
