HUGE improvement over earlier edition!
I purchased this after having the original edition checked out from the local library for several months. It's almost like an entirely new book - while it's clear that it's a revision of the original, it has been pretty much entirely re-written, with new sections covering upgrading from drum to disk brakes as well as adding pressure oiling for older stovebolts. The biggest improvement, however, is the photography. While the first edition was all black & white, this book is full of glossy, full-color pictures.I'm docking this one star due to the many typos in the book, but I'm also pretty picky when it comes to stuff like that.

Helpful book. Lost the earlier version. Of course I found it as soon as this one arrived. Just enough updates to make it worth it. Jim

A great product for a newbie
The seller of this product was stellar. The product was as described and was shipped and received quickly. The book is great for newbies and as a reference. If you are considering buying an old truck or just want an overview as to what a full rebuild would encompass, this is your tome! It has to cover so many years that it can not possibly go into great detail on any specific subject. IMHO, a little to much on body work and not quite enough on electrical or upgrading to a non-stock drivetrain. It is a great book for an overview and for reference.

Not What I Was Expecting
I was expecting more detailed instructions on dis-assembly/re-assembly, kind of like a Chilton or Haynes Manual, but that is not the case. It's good for instructing one on what to look for on a donor/project car that you are thinking of buying, but does not provide much on how things go together or what current parts can be used on these older trucks. For example, I'm replacing the steering column in a 1958 Chevy Apache with one from a 60's truck. This book doesn't provide those details or options that can be used, not even any guidance on possible fabrication of parts. I would not recommend this book to anyone who already has a project car purchased and started. I might recommend it to a first-timer who is looking for a project so they can read on what they are about to get into and how to go about picking a vehicle. And for some background on myself, the 1958 Apache is my 1st restoration project. I am by no means an automotive expert. I have an network engineering degree, so the aptitude to research and solve problems is there and I like to work with my hands and perform almost all my maintenance and repairs on my daily driver. In high school, I rebuilt a 350 Chevy engine and worked on my 76 Pontiac Ventura.I hope this helps anyone looking at buying this book.

Worth the money,but...
This book has been very helpful as my mechanical skills are limited. I am a novice but have been bitten by the old truck bug. The book covers Chevys but also has a lot of references to GMC trucks. There are also a lot of photos to go along with the text. It explains the basics and then some. I would strongly recommend it for a novice or mid-level mechanic. If you are a professional, you probably know the contents already. What bothers the heck out of me though are the typos and improper grammer. Whoever did the proof reading gets an F.

Great Introduction on How to Restore/Rebuild a Classic Chevy Truck
This manual is quite good at what it was written to do, which is provide a comprehensive introduction of how to restore a classic Chevy truck. To the books own admission, you will not get drawings, or exploded sketches, but what you will get is an understanding of all aspects of truck restoration. As a novice "car guy," I found the book to be very interesting and informative. The only gripe I have about the book is the poor editing in terms of spelling, grammar usage and sentence construction. At least 2-3 errors a page.

Great Book! It's not a manual
Great Book! It's not a manual, so don't expect detailed info. It was still worth the buy. Great guide to have along the way. So I get to read, get understanding, and give ideas on what my husband & daughter are doing. He would not have bought the book, but I did and I see him reading it almost everyday.

Useful but not a real manual on how to restore
I wanted more specific guidelines for restoring but the book is very good in what it is targeting. Alot of info on the difference between restoring and rebuilding a truck, how to go about those processes. Will definately benefit those who have not already thought through if they want to restore or if they want to rebuild.

Good overall coverage of basics but rather lacking in detail
Bought this mainly as background research as I am looking for a stepside, so good for learning basics but if you're expecting the level of detail in the Haynes manuals then it doesn't have that.

Not in-depth, but a good book.
Good book. Not overly in-depth, as one would expect from the broadness of the topic covered. Does give a good framework though, a recommended sequence to follow. Hint: start with the brakes, so you don't endanger yourself or others with your rustbucket.
