Clean with a conscience!
I'm trying to wean myself off the supermarket-bought sponges completely, and these provide a great alternative. They're much more environmentally friendly, and I know I'm not putting microplastics into the water system. This is a small British company trying to make a difference, and the sponges are great. Although the loofah side is not quite as flexible as the plastic ones, you soon get used to that. When I feel the sponge needs a clean, I put it in the washing machine with a hot wash, although I have seen people suggest they can go in the dishwasher; they last longer than the plastic ones. I haven't tried composting them yet, but I will put the current one in my compost bin to see what happens.

unexpectedly happy customer
Wth a large degree of scepticism I bought a pack of these sponges We have been using this one for just over 2 weeks and it looks as though it will last a good while longer It works very well - better then the green and yellow sponges which would only last a few days Its also aesthetically more pleasing For context we are a family of 5 adults who all eat a lot some several times a day ! Everything is cooked from scratch as 2 people have severe allergies so lots of cooking baking washing up etc on top of dishwasher The cost of a 12 pack seems high but with this level of performance its going to be more economical than the green sponges and obviously better for the environment.

Great with some caveats
These are as good as the traditional plastic green/yellow scourers that we’re all used to - with a couple of caveats: Pros: Clean just as good as plastic scourers Last longer Refresh well in dishwasher No plastic bits coming off in your sink Cons: Price - obviously a lot more expensive, yes they last longer but still pricy. The looser side is prone to splitting especially if you catch on a sharp object like a knife - annoying if it happens early on in the life cycle. Overall I think I will stick with these.

Good-quality sponges that last a while
These sponges seem to last for 6-8 weeks before the softer side starts breaking down. (Photo is of a sponge after 7 weeks' use.) The loofah side is strong enough for most baked-on food marks (but it's worth keeping some steel wool handy for really tough bits). I can't say I've ever put them in the washing machine but they don't seem to need it (no smell, not slimy etc, just some discolouration), so long as you wring it out and let it dry between uses. However, it's worth checking your council's food waste recycling rules before chucking it in with your veg scraps – they shouldn't be added if it's going to an anaerobic recycling unit.

I really wanted to like these - maybe if they improve
I have tried to switch to compostable things where possible, and recycled if not practical. These were expensive but I have to say they do last longer than a regular sponge. On the whole, I quite liked them BUT I won’t be buying again until they are improved, which I’m sure they will be. Or else you will be going through a serious amount of water to get any reasonable use out of them. Please read the full review and this sort of product deserves it. They are nicely packaged and you need to get them wet to ‘activate’ the sponge like properties. If they dry out, just wet them again. They are reasonably absorbant but not as much as a normal sponge. Therefore I actually think I wasted a significant amount of water using them. They also don’t hold onto washing up liquid very well so I seemed to be firing through that also. The good about them though is they don’t soak up fat in the same way a normal sponge does. Lamb fat in a pan is enough to kill of any sponge but these survived and continued to be used. That was a positive. The scourer side is obviously never going to be as good as a normal sponge. They never are. This was good for still wet but anything baked on etc it wasn’t going to come off without a serious soak, some very very hot water, or a dishwasher. All of which are not fantastic environmentally either. In terms of durability, 3 of the 4 were absolutely fine and seemed to go on forever. One of them I threw because the scourer came apart from the rest of the sponge. The 3 decent ones had to be chucked as they don’t cope well with very sharp knives. I managed to slice all sorts of bits off the sponge. Overall, if they improve, especially in terms of water retention and the scourer, I’ll go back to them. They would be worth the money. I guess they sort of were because they lasted ages, but would have spent much more money on electricity and water in the same time to get any good use out of them.

Much better for the environment. We all need to help going forward.
I am delighted with these seep sponges. I was sceptical when I read previous reviews but totally agree with the positive comments. Makes washing dishes effortless and the sponge is as good as new after a months use. Certainly worth the extra money.

I always keep getting back to them. They are the closest to the conventional, plastic ones. I love that they are compostable and have a cute design. Steep price but worth it.
