Ghirardelli Premium Baking Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips

I usually just get the regular yellow bag of Tollhouse or whatever that brand is that all stores carry for chocolate chips. I decided to give these a go just for kicks and giggles. I wanted to make some chocolate chip cookies so when these arrived, Iwent ahead and used them. Also, if I remember right, I believe it came as a set of 6? The cookies were a massive hit. They usually are anyways, but there was just something slightly different that worked better. I will be buying these again!

Ghirardelli is one of my fave brands of chocolate chips, in this case semi-sweet. As with quality chocolate everywhere, the price has increased quite a bit since the pandemic. We still need superior-tasting chocolate chips, so I have begun buying multiple packages on sale at Amazon. I sometimes worry that if I order them in the summer that they would arrive as a gooey mess, so my orders are limited to the cooler months. So far, shipping has been fine. The seller wrapped the five bags in another bag before the Amazon box, so I appreciate that careful approach.

These have become my #1 baking chips, especially for cookies. They have a rich, chocolately flavor and melt easily.

I thought Ghirardelli made Kirkland semi sweet chocolate chips but now that Costco doesn’t have their Kirkland chips anymore, I decided to buy these. They’re not quite as good as the Kirkland were-a bit waxy-but oh well. They’ll do. I know cocoa crop production has suffered so maybe that’s why quality changed. More wax🤔

The ingredients of this product on Amazon.com indicates that the chips contain organic unbleached wheat flour. I contacted Ghiradelli directly to obtain clarification since these are also advertised as being "gluten free" on Amazon.com. This is Ghiradelli's response to my inquiry: "Thank you for contacting Ghirardelli Chocolate. Ghirardelli currently offers one product which contains a gluten ingredient which is our Milk Hazelnut Crisp Squares. The Milk Hazelnut Crisp Squares contain barley malt as an ingredient. As a result, the line on which our Chocolate Bars and Squares are produced, share a common line with barley gluten. The Ghirardelli Chocolate Chips (Mini Semi Sweet, 60% Bittersweet, Double Chocolate Bittersweet, Semi-Sweet, and Milk Chocolate) line and powder line (hot chocolates and baking cocoas) will remain free of gluten ingredients. However, our Classic White Chips are made in a facility that uses wheat. Ghirardelli takes the following measures to reduce cross contamination on our production lines: lines are cleaned between the changing from one product to the next. Good value for the money when buying more. The chops hold up when baked & don’t melt away with a great chocolate taste. Quality is first rate & versatile enough to use in all baked recipes..

I love these for cookies and muffins. Pure chocolate taste, no funny aftertaste like some cheaper chocolate chips.

These are wonderful in all uses I have tried, in fact there will be CC pancakes tomorrow that will be outstanding
