They sound great. Good mid-range. Reasonable bass. Also, the design, manufacturing quality, and the material choices are very good. I will probably have these for a long time.

So far so good. I like them A LOT more than my sure 101se's which i had for about 8 years and never liked much. never replaced them cause i didn't think i could get anything much better for under $100. Well these sound a lot better to me for only $50.They have a well balanced and pretty round sound. I have not yet found any genre's that sound bad to me. Also i love that they are super light and minimalist, no extra clunky stuff on the cable. They only con might be that the cable does pickup external sounds. I don't notice it when i'm just walking around, but if i flick on the cable, it's very noticable. It was also noticable when i had a very strong fan blowing on me from a couple feet away. Overall it's not an issue for the ways i use them.I have not liked any other $100 earbuds more, let alone for $50.

Dead Left Channel
Several Days Ago: Great buds. Great sound. Great instrument separation. ... But last night the left channel just died. No physical damage anywhere. ... Love the sound, but hesitate to replace with same.Tonight: I have tried other buds, but nothing, NOTHING gives the sound ambience of Beyerdynamic, that works so well for MY ears. I have already purchased the newest model of the above.PS: Surfing the WWW it appears that all buds die early. Who woulda thunk that those flimsy little wires would not last the constant yanking out of my ears??? ;-)

Recvd 'Open Box' instead of New
GOOD: Item received ahead of expected delivery time-great shipping! BAD: I was somewhat disappointed upon inspection; the top plastic seal was attached, however, the Beyerdynamic box clearly showed signs of stress at the bottom where it was previously opened and closed. All parts were accounted for but missing product manual/warranty info, and the cable clip was already attached to the cord(which is supposed to be in separate plastic cover). I think this was an 'open box' item because it was listed $10 cheaper than the other similar models(silver and black). GOOD: Attempted to use included rubber earpieces with no success; however, I cannibalized the earpieces from my JLAB J4's and got a perfect ear seal. The sound was very clear and detailed, however upon reading several reviews about these phones, I did have to give them a few hours of 'break in' time for the good bass to kick in. DTX 102's don't have the loud, punchy base like my JLABs, but the sound has more depth and clarity. The more I listened to the DTX 102 earphones, the more I enjoyed them. They pick up a lot more detail than my JLABs and Sennheiser CX 400, but sometimes I noticed the voices get a little drowned out by the mids. Overall, I like these phones; I chose these over the Shure 215 and Sennheiser Momentum to save $40 and I'm happy so far.

great bass and mids
great bass and mids, lovely fluid dark sound signature, seems a little rolled off in the upper treble to me (probably by design). I also have a pair of hifiman re400, which are more accurate and analytical, but these are much more enjoyable for long listening sessions. They are fair value at full price - I bought them at 50% off and that's a real bargain for in-ears this good.

Good, but not perfect.
The Good: These work well, sound good, look understated but attractive, have withstood gym use, and fit comfortably. The Bad: Too much line noise, don't feel very durable. The Verdict: A set of headphones that feels like a $30 set, sounds like a $90 set, and no one will ever ask you about (for better or for worse).

Headphones sound nice, the look is nothing great
Headphones sound nice, the look is nothing great. Bought these thinking they were made in Germany, and as with Apple, box says designed in Germany, Made in China. For the price, they work. Saving my money for a set of Westone buds. Overall, still happy that I bought them.

Ah, just right
I had a pair of MMX102ie and liked them very much, both for travel and as an aid to concentration at the office. Then I left them on a train and missed them. For a while I made do with the Shure in-ears from my long-haul kit, but while these offer great sound exclusion, they're a faff on the European flights I take now because it's too difficult to remove and reinsert them.I bought and returned a bargain-price pair of Musical Fidelity EB-33, which just didn't work for me in terms of comfort or sound quality. And so I ordered another pair of Beyerdynamics, this time the DTX version as I have no use for the microphone of the MMX. On went the largest of the three tips, in they went and I gave them the closing minutes of Abbado conducting Bruckner 5, which had been all too much for the EB-33. The 102s sailed through it, keeping the trumpets from overwhelming everything else while still letting them sound properly brassy and triumphant. They just sound so natural and unfatiguing that I really can't fault the sound they make. Bass guitar is full-bodied but tuneful and orchestral basses have a satisfyingly woody growl; no bloated 'mega bass' here. Voices and mid-range instruments are well-managed too, and the detailed but controlled top end gives a great sense of space even to a massive recording like the Bruckner. There are more expensive in-ears that could probably wring out more detail or timing, but remember that these are mostly for 320k lossy files in a noisy environment; the phones probably aren't the limiting factor.Negatives? The cable is thin and will tangle if you even think of a word beginning with T. I keep mine on a small Bobino winder, which is ridiculously expensive for a few grams of washing up bowl plastic but worth it for the convenience. And that cable does produce some noise when it rubs or knocks against anything; not a problem in my mostly sedentary use but worth remembering if you want them for the gym.At any price up to about £40 these represent great value: they're comfortable, musical and pleasing to use. My feeling is that they're all a travel headphone needs to be, given the limitations of the listening environment and the source material - and the hazard that they'll eventually get lost or broken. I like them very much, and I'll try not to lose this pair.
