and I can say already that this is a high quality kit and a joy to build
I'm about half finished with this model so far, and I can say already that this is a high quality kit and a joy to build. The details are amazing, though many of the small details come in the form of photo-etched brass. This is the first time that I've ever used brass pieces, and they are very, very tiny. A good pair of tweezers is a must. The fit on the large pieces, such as the hull, are quite good. However, you will likely have to ream out a good number of the superstructure slots that the masts and cabins are to fit in, as I've found most of them to be too small to fit the parts. This is pretty easy to do though, so it shouldn't be too much trouble. An interesting side note, read the history of the ship on the side of the box. It's rather... entertaining.UPDATE: I've now finished the model, and it looks fantastic, even with my not-too-professional skills. This kit was well worth the time and effort I put in. Pardon the blurry photos, my camera wasn't in a good mood (maybe it was trying to hide the flaws in my construction!) I went with the on-the-box white paint scheme. though the painting guide included is only for gray and near-black schemes, so if you want a white ship you'll need to pay close attention to the box.

Intricate Build but Well Worth It.
As reviewer above noted, this is well put together ship. First experience with extensive photo etched brass parts. Many of the pieces are exquisitely small requiring magnification as well as tools appropriate for handling them. Because of this ships many small anti-torpedo boat guns, assembly the small guns was complicated. Went together well. Color matching Russian ships of this period is difficult. I bought the metal barrel set for this model although the kits plastic barrels were of very good quality. I enjoy naval history and the story behind this ship as well as the Port Arthur naval squadron is a fascinating piece of naval lore. This was my first ship build and I had to work through a lot of technique issues. Since then I've moved on to bigger ships but it was fun getting through this one.
