Whats the difference btween1/2 3/8? The handle? Which is good for general home use

1/2 is bigger than 3/8 by 1/8". This refers to the part that connects the socket to the wrench, they need to match or use an adapter. The bigger the more torque you can put into it. There's overlap in the socket sizes, 1/2 will go up to a little bigger sizes, 3/8 will go down to little smaller sizes. Another common option is 1/4" sockets which again has overlap, but goes down to even smaller sizes.
