The Complete Cookbook for Young Scientists: Good Science Makes Great Food: 70+ Recipes, Experiments, & Activities (Young Chefs Series) Review: Highly recommend! - Great cookbook for older child or teen. Lots of recipes that they can make with ingredients readily available. Well written and easy to follow the directions. Review: More than just a cookbook—it’s a kitchen laboratory for curious kids - We are big fans of the America’s Test Kitchen Kids series, but The Complete Cookbook for Young Scientists is easily the most engaging one yet. It doesn't just tell you how to make a recipe; it explains the chemistry and physics behind why certain ingredients react the way they do. The Content & Visuals: The vibrant, high-resolution photography is a major draw. Every recipe features a finished "hero shot," and many include step-by-step photos that are incredibly helpful for visual learners. My child was particularly fascinated by the section on why popcorn pops and the "Galactic Mirror Cake" project. Educational Impact: STEAM Integration: The "Understand Your Results" sidebars turn a simple meal into a science lesson without feeling like schoolwork. Tested Recipes: Since it’s from ATK, the recipes actually work. We tried the skillet pizza and the textures were exactly as described. Skill Building: It teaches proper techniques (like the "claw grip" for cutting) that build real confidence in the kitchen.

Great gift for 6-10 year olds!
Originally bought this for my daughter and we loved the food + science so much that we have given it as gift three times. It is great for science grade school kids (with parents that are willing to help). Have had great results making the recipes with kids as young as kindergarten (with more supervision) and up to early middle schoolers (largely on their own).

Very cool explanations
Brings science and cooking together with subjects such as whipped versus cream and what happens to a recipe if one is used instead of the other. Has a lot of interesting, family friendly recipes. Interesting topics of science and then recipes to see it in action and how it translates into cooking. Bought for a 12 year old who loves making slime with different ingredients, experiments and cooking/baking. She loved this combination of food from a science experiment perspective. Just be prepared to make a mess in the kitchen!

A must-have for science obsessed bakers and chefs
This was bought as a gift for my 10 year old daughter. She loves all things science and enjoys baking very much. The explanations for the different recipes were absolutely amazing. Extremely interesting for a science obsessed kiddo and it’s really cool for kids to know why foods do what they do when they’re cooked/baked! Suggestions to try different things with the recipe for different outcomes and just overall an extremely great balance of kid friendly recipes and science knowledge.

Makes a great gift
Do you have a child, grandkid, that loves to cook and think? This cookbook is for them! Our grandson just loves it!

Less exciting than I expected
This is a great cookbook. It’s more of a learning cookbook than a science cookbook. Don’t get me wrong. It has a lot of science explanations. And I have actually learned a lot. But a lot of the experiments aren’t like amazing. I guess I was expecting all recipes to be exploding volcanoes so my expectations were maybe a bit high for a kid cookbook. My little one enjoys it and she loves reading the explanations and making the recipes even if we don’t carry out the experiment. So I definitely would give it five out of five stars. I think that it would be hard to create a science cookbook that had all amazing experiments so they did a good job.

Purchased this as a 2021 Christmas gift for my son (9), but couldn't resist reading it when he was at school. He's already cooked his way cover to cover through their cookbook, baked half of the baking book and will love this release too. I can't wait until he makes the cake on the cover. That icing is gorgeous.
