I bought this with the assumption that this was not actually 960p as some other reviewers have mentioned. That assumption was correct. The 960p is upscaled from 480p, and more importantly, it's done quite poorly. Don't even touch it. There's a lot of bad artifacts introduced from the upscaling around high-contrast scenes that aren't present in 480p, so if you're using this, just use it in 480p and upscale yourself if needed. (720p is just cropped 960p so don't use that either) I still rate this well because the 480p view is actually decently good for a camera of this cost and size. It's not perfect and as expected it struggles a bit in low light, but overall I'm happy with the quality. And as advertised, the images of both sensors are properly synced and come in as a single frame from what I can tell, with no tearing or partial images so far. Even if it's just 480p, this is still a good stereoscopic camera for the price.

Purchased the 100deg version. First, the good: For a hobby project, this is a neat device. It is definitely plug and play. It does give you, in one frame from one device, stereo images from the two sensors. I can get images at 30 fps, though they're a bit grainy under poor lighting. All in all, that's pretty cool! The distortion others mentioned: When retrieving full images, take a picture of some straight lines that are at an angle and they appear weirdly jagged. And the artifacts roll weirdly through the video frame. *I believe these are interpolation/upsampling artifacts.* After seeing the images, I realized 960p would be a weird resolution and looked again for OV9715 datasheets. Couldn't find one with a 960p spec, though many have 720p and 480p modes. The sensors on this are each working in 4:3 480p mode. Looking at the available resolutions (pictured), 3 have the same aspect ratio of 8:3 (2x 4:3). I suspect the 2x960p images are being 2x upsampled in hardware from 2x480p. The smallest 2x240p is half-sampled resolution. I also confirmed the 2560x720 (2x 16:9 720p) is actually just a digitally cropped version of the 2560x960 image and has the same, rolling, upsampling distortion as the 2560:960 images. So that's kind of a bummer. It seems to me the *actual* max resolution without upsampling from this is 1280x480 (2x 4:3 480p). I still think it's a neat device. It's doing 2x upsampling in hardware (if that's useful to you). It gives synchronous stereo images in a single frame/device. That's all neat. I'd rather have seen it be 2x720p than be an upsampled 2x480p. I also wonder about the "100 deg" claim but haven't measured carefully yet. For my work, an upsampled image doesn't add anything but wasted bandwidth/overhead. It's still a useful and unique little package for the price, and I look forward to tinkering with it.

There is a blue LED on the back of the board that should light up if the USB cable is connected correctly. The USB cable that I received with the camera didn't work. If you can't get your camera to be detected by your computer try with a new USB cable. The camera works well, and it's the cheapest one that I could find. So I think it is a good purchase. It worked automatically when I plugged it into my MacBook, no special driver installation was needed. It would be nice if there was an IR version of this camera because I suspect IR works better for depth detection and motion capture.

The USB port is super delicate! Be careful! Mine has broken on the second day, and now, I have to buy another...
