Has anyone used these in a toaster oven? If so how did it go?

I have not, but have a friend that lines the pan in her toaster oven& it works fine.

Why does this mat smell so bad? I used it for the first time yesterday and it had a bad chemical smell. I was lightheaded. Is this supposed to happen?

No it should not smell! It might have a coating from manufacturing at the factory. Did you wash it in warm soapy water and rinse well before you used it the first time?
