Really cool barometer
This is so cool! There were no directions but we googled and filled it with blue colored water. It looks nice; it's glass and comes with a chrome-ish wall hanger. It's a little over 6" tall. Nice product for the cost; gave it as a gift to my husband.

Works well
Just ordered my 8th set to give as gifts to friends. When barometric pressure is low, I get a headache. Look at my barometer and sure enough the color is way up.Well worth the money.

Beautiful! (and here are some tips)
First let me say that I love Amazon! The delivery is soooo fast, even with supersaver free shipping. Ordered late Fri night, arrived Monday! The Barometer is super easy to set up with the help of reviews, internet, and photos.Set-up: Using a 2 cup glass measuring cup (Pyrex), fill with 1 cup of tepid water. Add the food coloring to your desired color. Using the syringe and thin plastic tubing (included), fill as directed to 'fair'. 'Fair' is halfway in the big round bowl (fair = middle, as in meet in the middle). When hanging, the glass can hit into the steel holder (strong wind, bumping), so I simply placed a small (adhesive) round felt pad onto the holder where it meets the glass (like furniture pads). Problem solved! The instructions (under "care & cleaning") state this barometer is for "indoor use only". There is a reason for this and my guess is... Freezing temperatures can freeze the water and break the glass. For summer and mild climates, it's fine. ALSO: a hailstorm or anything could break it outdoors. Ours is kept under our covered porch by the door. It's great to check on each time we go out/come in. I would not recommend hanging it outside in the open.To wash it, Use the syringe to remove the colored water from the inside of the glass. Add a teaspoon bleach* per 1 cup of tepid water. Fill the inside. In a plastic tub add warm water and a little bleach, enough to cover the glass (you can place a white dishtowel in the water if you don't have a plastic tub). GENTLY place the glass into the tub (or atop the towel) and let sit overnight.*I do not recommend using too much bleach on the inside of the glass as I don't know if it would cause the inside explode or not. You can certainly use just water if you like, as it's not meant to be drank.

Looks Nice, but..........
I know when I purchased this that it was going to be slightly different than my old one. My first storm glass barometer was larger and had a copper hanger. It was very accurate in predicting weather changes and easy to maintain. Unfortunately it broke which is why I bought this one to replace it. To me the instructions were a little confusing regarding filling and it didn't give you any indication on how to read level changes. This one says fill until half way up the spout. Sounds simple, but if you hold it upright while filling it only allows a tiny amount of water in. If you lay it down to fill, it will put a huge amount in. Either way it will take several days before it starts to react to changes. The instructions on my old barometer said to fill it laying it down and checking the water level upright. When it was 1/2" above the neck of the spout it was at the correct level. It would react to weather changes in 24 hours. Also it explained that the higher the water went up the spout - a storm was coming. If it was low in the spout - nice weather. This one says changes in the spout level means changes in weather. What confused me even more is it is the opposite of my old barometer! I figured that all models would work the same, but apparently they don't. I've noticed the higher it goes up the spout, the nicer the weather is. The lower it goes, the weather is bad. It works, but I guess I'm not happy with it because I was expecting it to be 'just like my old one'.2/6/2014 Update. Having this now for some time, I've discovered if it needs to be refilled I only fill it 1/3 up the spout and not the 1/2 way up the spout per the directions. It reacts within 24 hours and is very accurate. I am now very pleased with my purchase!

Highly accurate, simple, and reasonably priced barometer
If accuracy in barometric pressure is what you need, these barometers are it. They respond to the slightest changes in pressure and react instantly to realize true changes in the weather. If you fish, you MUST have one of these. Slight changes in the barometer change how fish feed. Try it and see.

Pretty and accurate
The tubing is easy to put in if you soak it in hot water for less than a minute and I found resting it in a mason jar slightly tilted made filling a lot easier. I compared it to the weather app and it’s been pretty accurate and cool to watch. I loved customizing the color with food dye. Now I have a quick and pretty way to see if my migraines and random pains are related to low pressure.

I love it
The barometer is totally accurate. I enjoy seeing the liquid go high when the barometric pressure is low. Sometimes, when the pressure is low, it overflows onto the overflow cup. It keeps me in touch with nature. I definitely recommend this product. My grandfather gave me one of these barometers when I was a child and it broke years ago. Having the barometer brings back memories.Thank you for an another fine product, Ambient Weather.
