What is the source of the "natural fragrance?" Is it the essential oils or something additional. I get terrible headaches from "fragrances."

On the label, it is specified as "natural fragrance". All the ingredients are natural. There is no essential oil added, but there is olive oil, coconut oil, sage oil and more. This im sure gives it the pomade texture. It smells wonderful and is light feel. I think this would be worth your try. Two jars lasted me almost 3 1/2 months of daily use.

Is this good for beginners' dreads?

I believe so, it is growing my hair in places where I had bald spots.
