Grand Central Terminal offers the reader an insight into just what architecture can offer a city. Especially to someone who has not walked Grand Central’s concourse. Schlichting includes everything from an exact description of the need for Grand Central, the world background at the time of its construction, and of course the money involved. And he does so in an informative and entertaining manner. It is indeed a grand book covering a grand topic.

The information regarding the building of Grand Central terminal as well as the layering of events in history was extraordinary Although highly technical in some parts the expertise of the writer made it easy to understand the mechanics as well as the cast of characters involved in that period of history. The narration was informative, fascinating and extremely interesting. It is amazing to consider the feats in building this terminal and the railway system as well as the imagination and foresight in developing the plan.

Having grown up & lived in New York, Grand Central Station has always had an appeal for me. This book gives the background behind its genesis, construction & reconstruction. It is very well researched & a quick read. A+

The book looks good, but unfortunately I had to return it for a refund shortly after purchase. It is supposedly richly illustrated, but every single picture was missing and replaced by the words "Image not available." I checked it, both the sample and the complete book, on three of my devices and on the Cloud Reader, with the same results. First Kindle publication I've ever known with that defect.

I'm a railfan, but somehow had missed Kurt Schlicting's books. This one is gorgeous, complete, and beautifully illustrated. It is really not just for railfans, but for anyone interested in urban archtecture and engineering..

A great book for those interested in the history of this great building!
