(5 stars as long as you have a working switch on your product.) Bought as a "used" product from amazon warehouse deals. Product was complete, new in original packaging. HOWEVER, Clearly the reason it was in the warehouse for discount sale was because it was DEFECTIVE! The switch mechanism would not work. Would not hold in the "on" (cook) position when lever was pressed as it is suppose to & would pop right back to the warm position. However, fortunately I had the understanding & know how to make appropriate adjustments to fix magnetic switch lever & shortly had it working properly. Bought this product to replace my old non stick Aroma rice cooker which the coating was badly peeling off of and had a pot made from aluminum. Happily, found out that this new stainless steel pot was actually the same exact size pot & lid as my old cooker & fits in my old cooker as well! Which means my old steamer & lid & cooker are all usable parts still! I am taking a chance & buying another warehouse deal of these so that I can have another to use. I have wanted an extra pot to cook in while one is stored in the fridge & a second one would be great. I wish I had known about & had one of these years ago. I really like this product. It is simple but effective. You can cook as little as one cup of rice in it at a time or much more. I wanted a larger pot because I use it for far more than rice. It makes oatmeal quickly & so easily. Other uses include, pasta, potatoes, soups, vegetables, shrimp, hotdogs, etc... Anything you might put in a pot on the stove to boil, you can make in this cooker. The bonus is, if you happen to walk away because of a phone call or interruption & forget you are cooking, once the water boils off, the bottom of the pot warps slightly from the heat, pulling away from the magnetic switch & the cooker switch releases turning the cooker to warm mode. Therefore the bottom of the pots contents only browns slightly but does not burn. The stainless steel with just a slight browned food stuck to it is much easier to clean than stainless with burnt on food!! Plus, in the warm mode, I can slow cook soups & other things in the pot for a whole day or more. I just cover the lid a bit more w/ a towel to keep the heat in better for slow cooking. I was happy with my first rice cooker from Aroma & thought it was a great invention, only I wished it wasn't a nonstick coated aluminum pot. In all of my other cooking I only use steal & cast iron & was not happy to have to use aluminum & non stick coating because of all the characteristic problems as well as health concerns with those materials. I was happier to find they offer it with a stainless steel pot!! Same great cooker made even better!! Plus the stainless steel pot "should" last for years & years longer then the previous aluminum not stick pot. I recommend this product to all my friends.

The cooker outer shell had a stain mark though. The packaging was really nice. So far I have just unpacked and used it once - used 4 cups of Tilda basmati rice & 5 cups of water (so that the rice is a bit soft). And rice cooked really nice. I’m a perfectionist in terms of any purchase it’s hard to convince me, I keep returning things as long as it’s not up to my expectations and research. And this Rice cooker is worth every penny ( I bought it for $61), as the inner pot is stainless steel which is a healthier option to the nonstick ones. Hope this review helps. Update: Have used 3/4 times a week for 3 months now. Works great, worth every penny. The stainless steel pot works as a storage pot too - I cook rice in it, once the rice is cooked down, I store this with the lid on in the refrigerator and this pot works great. Easy to clean up the remaining rice from pot before next cooking. Highly recommend and for sure worth every penny!

I have an old rice cooker/veggie steamer that I received for Christmas many decades ago that still works great. But the inner liner(or pot) is 100% aluminum. And we know that aluminum has been linked to Alzheimer’s. So now that I’ve switched to a Whole-Foods Plant-based diet/lifestyle, I eat tons more whole grain brown rice. The inner liner of the Aroma Housewares rice cooker is stainless steel! Score! And it cooks brown rice perfectly!! It is as simple and easy to use and clean as the old one. Measure the rice with the included cup & wash the rice. Place it in the pot. Fill with broth or water or a mix of both with the same measuring cup. Place the cover on. Plug it in. Push the button down to cook, and 30-40 minutes later you have perfect rice! You simply add extra liquid (1/2 to 3/4 cup) than normal white rice and let it sit on warm after the timer ends to give it more time to cook. You just have to experiment. The first time I cooked whole-grain brown rice per the chart and recommended water, it was just slightly chewy. So per the instructions I just added a 1/2 cup more water and left it sitting on warm. That did the trick to finish cooking till it was just perfect. The second time, I added more water than the first time and let it sit 10 minutes after the timer ended. Perfect rice! I haven’t cooked quinoa or barley yet. But they are in the cooking chart in the book it came with. I can’t wait to try cooking other grains! Update: Now that I’ve used this rice cooker for a couple months, and about 6-8 times, to cook long-grain brown rice, I can say it’s a great cooker. And I saw the other reviews that complain about the cooker spewing water everywhere. That DID happen to me the very first time I used it. But after that, it never happened again even when cooking more than I did that first time. The first time I only used 2 cups of uncooked brown rice, and yes it did spew and starchy gloppy water went everywhere. It boiled over. But the next time I used it, I placed it in my sink anticipating a mess. I cooked 3 cups uncooked the second time, and NO MESS. The next time (3rd time) I placed it on my counter with a triple layer of paper towels underneath it, and again - no mess! So maybe it is some sort of coating that is scrubbed or cooked off, after the first use. Yes I did wash the inner pot when I unpacked it, before first use. So that may be the reason. But I’m here to tell you it hasn’t happened since. I highly recommend this rice / grain cooker. It’s perfect!

I got this to replace a very old rice maker with a dented non stick pot. I make rice every other day or more, so I wanted one that won’t leach chemicals into my rice. This one is just perfect! I was worried about two things before buying it - that the vent hole would leak water while boiling and that the pot would be hard to clean. To my pleasant surprise neither came true; when cooking my usual 4-5 cups of Asian rice the lid never bubbles over at all, and after cooking the rice came out of the pot very easily with minimal sticking. I don’t even have to soak the pot to clean it, just a regular wash and it’s good to go! I don’t use the warm function, I just unplug it as soon as it’s done so maybe that’s why there’s no sticking. One odd thing was that the plastic lid handle made a popping or cracking sound when I first used it, but I only saw a tiny crack in the handle but nothing to worry about, the handle feels pretty sturdy still. If Aroma reads these reviews, just note that the handle plastic quality could be improved. But overall, I love this rice maker! By the way, make sure you’re always rinsing your rice until the water runs clear. (Both for health, digestibility, and ease of cooking.)

The rice cooker is good , good quality and excellent for value of your money. The inner pot is thick very good also. Our only problem is we use only white Jasmine rice and it's stick at the bottom wasting a lot of cooked rice. We tried unplugging it, put butter to see if it won't stick to no avail. Otherwise I recommend it to anyone as rice cooker.
