Incredible set.
The balance, finish and sharpness on these are nuts. The Damascus finish is incredible. They came extremely sharp. I got them sharper but I have a very high end sharpening system, wicked edge and use .5 diamond emulsion with a stropThese knives are different than the European variety. They are made for precision, not toughness. Do not think about cutting through bones. I have some Zwilling pros for that if needed. These are thin, harder steel and much sharper. You can chip them if you don't know what you are doing.Make sure to use a good wooden cutting board so you don't mess up the edgeIf you need a decent set for the kitchen and haven't used Japanese style knives, go for Henckels or learn what you are doing first. You are comparing a pickup truck to a Porsche. Shun has the Porsche price tag alsoYou have to maintain these. Clean properly oil etc. no dumping in the sink like cheap knives. These knives are highly recommended, but not for the untrained person. You need to understand the proper techniques to fully utilize these.

The BEST knives we have ever owned!
We had previously had a set of Chicago Cutlery knives and they were good for a while but then were needing to be sharpened every-other use. So we started looking for top quality knives that would last a long time. After some research and looking around at various brick-&-mortar stores, I decided to give these Shun knives a go. Amazon was the only place that had this set in stock so I bit the bullet on the price and considered it an investment.BOY WAS IT A GREAT INVESTMENT! From Day 1 that we used these knives you can tell the superior craftsmanship and the extreme sharpness of the blades. Food prep is a breeze and the items look great with the excellent slicing performed by these knives. These look to be the last knife set that I will ever buy, now I just need to round out the knife block and purchase the knives not included with this set.Pros - Sharpest knives aroundCons - A little extra care is needed when washing the knives but it is a con that eventually turns into a pro because your knives will last longer. If you are on the fence about the price, just pull the trigger because these are the BEST knives hands down!

Classic 8 piece shun w/block proves to beat our other top brands, hands down.
These knives are awesome. Comfortable, well weighted, extremely sharp. We ve had Wusthoff, andHenckels, but these are far superior. We appreciate the extra slots as we started with just a filled knife for brisket, and now it has a place in this beautiful set. 7 knives, a steel, and shears, in a well made bamboo deep block, with 4 additional slots, so your set can grow. I paid 799 $us. Great value.

Crazy sharp? ... yep, delicate? Yes.
Like every one mentions... wicked sharp.Know your steel, if you are not familiar with the knives & their purpose go do some research and lean how o hold them properly. Knowing how to care for these knives will prolong the life. Also invest in good cutting boards...Note the cutting board in the photo; decent example. Also if you plan to put these in automatic dishwasher know that you’re killing the knives doing this... and will most certainly damage the blade and handles. Beware these are instruments not some junky knife to toss around... and can chip if you abuse them.

Shun knives are not what they used to be -- forging defects!
Got this set. The photo speaks for itself. The KNIFE quality and their quality assurance department fallen from what it once was. Sad. I reached out to Shun with the above photo and their response is this long canned message that makes me feel like I am trying to defraud them. I had to pay to send the knife in, wait for them to evaluate if I fail this test "The warranty policy does not extend to damages incurred by accidental handling or misapplication." Oh, and get this, they pre-charge me for their mistake "Return shipping fees are $15 USD for US customers and $25 USD for customers in Canada and Mexico."I was a 10/10 Shun fan club member but this experience drops me down to a 2 of 10.To be clear "Cutlery and More" has been FANTASTIC. Have bought from them in the past and have always been happy. I'd suggest you look at the other brands they may have to offer.

I have wanted these for a long time! The set had all the knives I wanted. They are a little expensive, but you get what you pay for. This are fantastic! Very sharp & easy to grip!

Welp, I’ll never need to shop for knives again!
I asked my chef friend what brands to consider for my new set of knives. He said Shun and one more and I saw Amazon had a good deal on Shun so I went with them and I couldn’t be happier. Incredible quality all around. 10/10, 100/100, 1000/1000 etc 👌🏼
