The comedy is top-notch, the main characters are lovable scoundrels, and the story is intriguing without any effort on the part of the reader. Review: Short. Unfinished. Profane. Crude. - Full of profanity, with a smattering of violence and crude sexual discussion. Most unfortunate, this book doesn’t close any storylines, forcing you to purchase further paperbacks before being able to appreciate the good writing. It feels unfinished. The characters don’t arc in the slightest so sure, I would enjoy watching a TV show with these nutcases, but unless I had an omnibus with 30-50 issues, I can’t appreciate this mini collection.

I was up in the air about this book, but it's solid
I was up in the air about this book, but it's solid. More than solid. It just probably won't have the mass appeal of some of the other graphic novels out there.

Absolutely hilarious
One of the funniest comics I have read! After reading Jimmy Olsen I was hungry for some more Steve Lieber hijinks and this was just what I needed. Absolutely brilliant and fun.

Great read, cannot recommend it enough
I met Steve Lieber at a comic book convention this last weekend and as I was gushing over his Hawkeye run, he pointed this book out to me. I picked up the first volume and he signed it for me with a sketch of Pretzels (read the book) on the inside cover. I devoured it that night and read it again immediately after i finished it. It was hilarious! The artwork is on point and fits the tone of the story so well. The writing is clever and perfectly paced. Great read, cannot recommend it enough! I went back the next day and told him how much I enjoyed the book. He told me the second volume is coming out in April (right after my birthday) I can't wait!

Not As Funny or Transgressive As It Thinks It Is
Hmm, not quite sure how I feel about this first in the three-book series about corrupt LA cops. It's trying really really hard to be funny and outrageous -- but only sometimes succeeding --- and the titular beagle doesn't really show up until almost the end. Instead, we meet the two corrupt cops as they sloppily try to rob a target in a hospice center, sporting poop-eating grins the whole while. It seems they are in debt to kombucha-drinking, bluegrass-playing, anti-vaxxer, mob boss Josh, who doesn't mind a little torture and murder for comedic effect. (One of the book's better jokes is that they are in debt for gambling on underground battle-bot matches ("C'mon Vomrocket!"). The story hops all over the place, as another thread involves their relationship with a manic movie producer. Actually a good barometer of the book's tone is a scene where the producer and one of the cops are meeting at a restaurant, and at one point the producer pauses in the conversation, and then a woman comes out from under the table wiping her mouth and he tells her to have a Diet Sprite on him. If that kind of humor resonates, then you'll probably really enjoy this. Anyway, there's a whole side plot involving getting a script into the hands of a former child star turned third-rate Hollywood wild child. The drug-sniffing beagle doesn't really show until the very end, along with a character who seems overly inspired by Breaking Bad's Gus Fring. All in all this one of the wordier comics I've seen in quite a while, with dialogue balloons cramming the panels. The art is solid -- with a pretty clean and classic aesthetic for the most part. There were a few places where the panels ran horizontally across both pages, but the gutter of the spine obscured that, so there's room for layout improvement. Readers in the mood for a cynical, foul-mouthed, violent, over-the-top, crime series should definitely check this out, but like a lot of comedy, it's not as funny as it thinks it is. The storylines are all left completely unresolved, and I'm on the fence about whether or not I care enough to check out volume two.

Darn Near Perfect
The Fix is darn near perfect, as far as goofy crime books go. Everything is solid, from the pacing, to the dialogue, to the great, cartoony artwork. The spirit of Superior Foes carries over to a more traditional, modern crime setting, about two crooked cops and a drug-sniffing dog. The plot is complicated, multifaceted while managing not to feel unfinished by the books completion. It's clear there's plenty more in store, and we don't get much of a conclusion, but everything is so perfectly balanced, that each issue feels satisfactory and conclusive anyway. I can't wait to see where this one goes. (All the little Mountain Goats nods didn't hurt either)

Excellent comic by a great writer, hilarity from beginning to end

This is hilarious, sharp, easy to read and most importantly- interesting. It's by far the funniest comic on shelves right now. The art is simple but effective, dynamic but clear, it's great. It compliments Nicks writing and helps make strong jokes hit hard. Nick and Steve have a chemistry that I'm struggling to find elsewhere in comics, I think you should buy this book.

Un buddy cop? No. Una storia alla tarantino, anche molto complessa con dialoghi meravigliosi? Si. Spencer sta diventando il mio autore di comics preferito. Mi è piaciuto? Sto ordinando il secondo! Consigliatissimo!
