Where Hands Go: An Introduction to Safe and Unsafe Touch

A great book for teaching them about good touches and bad ones

It’s very important to me that my children learn how to communicate and understand their bodies from a young age, and this book does exactly that in the most gentle, thoughtful way. Where Hands Go created such a natural and meaningful segue into conversations with my 3-year-old about body parts, body autonomy, and appropriate vs. inappropriate touch. The book is beautifully written and illustrated in a way that feels safe, calm, and age-appropriate while still addressing an incredibly important topic. It empowers children to understand that their body belongs to them and that they are allowed to say no, and it encourages them to speak up if something doesn’t feel right. From a parent’s perspective, this book made a serious conversation feel approachable instead of scary. The language is clear but delicate, making it easy for young children to understand without being overwhelming. I also appreciate that it opens the door for continued dialogue rather than being a one-time read. This is an essential resource for parents, caregivers, teachers, and therapists. I truly believe this is a book every household with children should have—it provides a lifelong tool that helps keep kids safe while building confidence and communication skills early on.

This book was loved by my 3 year old but I wish I would’ve known it was ONLY an intro. It didn’t include any specific language about safe/ not safe touches. It merely mentioned that there is a difference. My child is starting preschool this year and I wanted something simple to reinforce what I’ve taught her. This was not it. HOWEVER the next book in the series was a lot more helpful. It rhymes and discusses different scenarios to empower children to take ownership of their bodies. So if you’re looking for something more specific, try the next book in the series. If you’re looking for a conversation starter, this book would be more appropriate. Overall great illustrations and easy language for young children. A good tool for any parent looking to educate their child about consent and safe touching.

I like “Where Hands Go” because it is colorfully illustrated and concisely written about the relevancy of “safe and unsafe touch”. This topic runs the gamut of being appropriate for various ages; however “Where Hands Go” was very age appropriate for my four year old granddaughter. The message of “safe and unsafe touch” is encapsulated in a poem with just the right rhythm and catchiness that my lil girlie can comprehend her body boundaries even at this early age! My experiences and those of many others validate how important it to start sharing and teach about “safe and unsafe touch” as soon as it age appropriately to do so. She enjoyed the read from her Bibi and asked me to read it to her again. I love reading to my granddaughter anyway and what a comfort it is to promote literacy and her safety in such a cute book!

Uhm i wish they would’ve specified that it’s literally JUST an introduction. Like there’s no substance, way too vague for a kid. Cute idea but Waste of money. Try another one

The vibrancy of the illustrations, simplicity of the message, and length of the book is excellent. I read it to my 4-yr old, and the book provided a good foundation to discuss this topic. My daughter was able to understand it, and talk about it very easily. Good read!

Pretty decent book but wasn’t as descriptive as I thought it would be for my 6yr old, kind of vague but the pictures are beautiful.

My kids and I love this book. They ask to read it all the time and I feel it is a great introduction and conversation starter for body safety.
