Smaller size does not compromise the strength and firmness of the metal.
These are 1.5mm split rings, they are quite strong sand did not bend and retained its strength, perfect for the lobster keyring. The rings that came with the keyring were too large for my needs, and these smaller ones were perfect. Quick delivery from amazon.

10mm rings are too stiff to open
The larger rings in this range may OK but the 10mm size is no good. They cannot be opened far enough to attach them to anything wider than a hair's width. I wanted one to attach a tag to my dog's collar and they are utterly unsuited for that. In fact, they're worse than worthless because the opened ends are sharp and cut my fingers.
