You, too, can become real.
I never read “The Velveteen Rabbit” as a child. I first read it as an adult before i became real. The story made me sad. Then Life introduced me to someone who made me a better person, who made me ReAL. We were together for 22 Springs and just about to begin our 23rd. That was two years ago when the Boy passed to green pastures and still waters. This time reading the story of the Velveteen Rabbit, I understand more its message. “Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.”

Buyer Beware
Buyer beware!!!! The book does not reference a credible publishing house and copyright date of the book. It looks as if someone neatly typed the story and bound it themselves with a few small black and white copied photos. I am very disturbed that Amazon would allow this. Further, when I went in to search the seller, no name appears. This is forgery and theft from the publishing house and author that are owed the royalty. Copyright material should not be copied without written consent from the owner. If the seller of this book can provide proof of such consent, I would be happy to withdraw my complaint.

What does it mean to be "REAL"?
The Velveteen Rabbit, long forgotten amongst all the other toys, is one night dragged out by Nanny and given to the Boy as his china dogs cannot be found. At first the Velveteen Rabbit finds being hugged uncomfortable but he soon gets used to it.Finally the Velveteen Rabbit hears the words from the Boy, "He's REAL". Then he knows what the Skin Horse told him was true. Alas when the dreaded Scarlet Fever comes the Velveteen Rabbit is ordered to be thrown out. Who is the Nursery Magic Fairy and what does she do?A very sweet story.Having read some very colorful and well illustrated picture book versions of this story, some readers may be disappointed that there are only seven illustrations in this book. They are in color but rather monochromatic and probably the original drawings/sketches? The book is formatted well for the Kindle, even the smaller screens like the Paperwhite so definitely worth the purchase.

I've always loved this special classic
I loved this book as a child, and it filled me with joy and also brought me to tears. Children's books that elicit the positives of those emotions like this one invite a fantastic dialogue about joy and the things that cause sadness/happiness. I make sure to stress these emotions are normal for girls and boys, and tears are nothing to ever be ashamed of. I had my daughter read this to me yesterday, and she reminded me so much of me at her age. She's so serious and nurturing and infinitely kind. I hope she keeps those qualities as she grows. This is a beautiful classic for all children to read and all parents to take advantage of the teachable moments if they have the time.

The Velveteen Rabbit is a great book for adults and children. Written long before Toy Story and others of it's genre.
A little boy gets a stuffed rabbit for Christmas and is more interested in his shiny new gifts , so he puts it in the closet. The Skin Horse, who had lived the longest of the toys, tells the rabbit, "Real isn't how you are made," said the Skin Horse. "It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real." The little boys gets scarlet fever and in those days, they burned anything that was used or near the child while they were sick. In the 40's I had some of my things burned for this very reason. So, this book struck a cord with me.Every adult should read this book, so they can again look at the world through a child's eyes.

Where was this book when I needed it?
Where was this book when I was a child reading everything I could get my hands on iin the public library? Or, again, when I was reading to my children and then to my grandchildren? Now, I guess I'll have to wait until I have great-grandchildren! Without a doubt, this is one of the best children's books out there. Anyone who has ever loved a stuffed animal or a blanket or anything else would love this book. So, parents and grandparents, get those fingers typing to buy this amazing book! (Mrs. JoeC)

Always a favorite
Always a favorite of my children, now grown and almost old enough to have grown children of their own.My daughter was given a beautiful copy of this book many years ago as a special gift from her first grade teacher. The story has a beautiful lesson about "what is real?", good for children of school age, but entertaining for pre-schoolers, too.I purchased this Kindle copy to keep handy to read to the children of my young friends when they need a little distraction when their parents are otherwise busy.

Wonderful
I never read th I s beautiful story when I was a child. It is a wonderful tale of love and magic. Even though I did not read it as a child, it certainly warmed the heart of this senior citizen.

Not a good reprint
It was not very well printed. The pages were crooked and the lines on the photos. Very disappointing for the price

Avoid this copy
Very dissatisfied with this copy. Looks cheap and awful. Was going to give as a gift, but I feel it is not good enough to do so.

histoire magnifique, edition atroce!
