USB Card Reader, UNITEK 3-Slot USB 3.0 Compact Card Reader, Read 3 Cards Simultaneously, Aluminum SD Micro SD CF Card Adapter

It seems like every camera body I purchase has its own different memory cards, so for my new Canon R3, it uses the CFexpress B card (plus the SD card). I found this card reader is easy to use, very robust and reliable and reads the images from the card really quickly. Last night I was able to copy 92 GB of data from the card to the computer in just a minute or two. I like how the card clicks into place vs. just sliding in. I'm a big fan of this card reader and it will be traveling with me on my photo adventures.

The card reader is compact and works as expected. Transfer is fast, but the speed obviously also depends on the card. My only complaint would be that CF cards need to be inserted face down, see pictures. SD and microSD cards go in face up. This is a bit weird and I only found out because the CF card initially did not fit. When I felt some resistance, I turned it over and then it fit. This should be mentioned in the instructions as it could cause damage to the card reader and/or the memory card if someone pushes it in the wrong way.

I do like to take pictures and most the time I use a chip to save my work. It makes it easy to pop in the computer and print the photos. The chips often come in different sizes, So this one is great became you can put 3 different sizes in to download you photos. Once I upload you photo to the computer you can delete or save the clip. Clips can go bad, so I usually upload the photo and delete the clip, then I'm really to start again. The 3 sizes also make it very helpful, depending on you clip and your computer. The price was right!

A little background first...For my workflow, I shoot with a Nikon Z6. I was using Sony XQD cards and was having issues with the boot record becoming corrupted when using the Adobe Bridge Photo Downloader. So, I decided to try Sandisk Extreme Pro CFExpress cards (which are way faaster). So I bought this reader and have it connected to my PC via the front USB-C port. The copy speed is super fast. What's the issue? Do not leave your card in the reader! Both will get very (no, extremely) hot even when there is no activity going on. Pop out the card and all is well. No heat at all. Now, this overheating does not happen every time, but enough to know that I should never leave the card in the reader. Secondly, Windows 10 File Explorer recognizes the card. So does Lightroom and Bridge, etc. But, for some odd reason, the Adobe Bridge Photo Downloader will not detect the device, even though everything else sees it. I have been investigating this issue but have no resolution yet. In all, the reader works fast and works well. You may need to do some workarounds depending on your workflow.

Bought this to read the CF Express card with the photos from my Canon R5. It works perfectly. The card fits snugly in the slot and "clicks" in. One of the two supplied cable connects the reader to my MacBook and the card shows up in Finder immediately. The transfer speed is really fast. The reader does exactly what it should do. It is also solid and robust.

Yikes, what a mess. Product arrived on time (yay) but when I opened the box, the item looked as though it had been used previously. This had me a little concerned. Hesitantly, I decided to import my photos. It took a long time (certainly not as speedy as they had indicated). Looked at my import and it had only imported 77 photos (this is with a brand new Lexar SDcard). Tried it again and it was super fast (like too fast for 1200 photos at 50mb each). I started to edit a couple of photos and then ejected the card reader. Suddenly, none of my photos were in Lightroom. Weird. Checked my settings and looked at smart previews, nothing out of the ordinary compared to how I usually import and eject the device. Did this three times and each time I ejected the card reader, “no image found” was the reply. The device was overheating and this was another red flag. Thought I’d bypass LR and instead upload files to my external hard drive. At this point my new Apple Mac Studio desktop was starting to give me warning signs that something was wrong. Hence, I’ve ejected the device and will be returning for a Lexar brand card reader. I will never buy anything from Ocean Tech again.

I use this mainly to set up my Raspberry Pi's. This is also helpful with my retro 486 and Pentium pc's that use CF cards as hard drives.

My card reader got damaged, so i ordered this one. I was skeptical as i got 6$ off with a coupon, so i thought it was going to be cheaply made- i was wrong! It is great sturdy material. Works great with my complact flash card. Worked right away on my Mac without installing any other software. I am so happy with this purchase!!!! If you need a good card reader, this is it!!!
